Residents of Ashbourne Court Care Home decided to give it their best shot at breaking Guinness World Records!

As the 27th August will mark the 65th anniversary of Guinness World Records, our residents celebrated the day early by trying to break numerous records including balancing spoons, blowing a frozen pea and building a wall of toilet paper.

Our resident, Angela tried balancing spoons on her body, but definitely had no shame when she cheated! The record was 79 spoons and a great effort from Angela with 10 spoons.

Angela explained, “I’m not cheating by putting the spoons on my legs, I’m being resourceful!”

Resident, Anne attempted the record for tallest tower of toilet paper in 30 seconds. She achieved an impressive 14 and the record was 28. Anne joked, “I’m gonna hide behind my tissue fort and you can’t come in!”

We all had many laughs and after a few attempts, Irene managed to blow a frozen pea 6cm! The current record is 58 cm. Irene explains, “Oh it’s harder than it looks!”

Angela was the most competitive and asked if she could have a toilet roll as a prize if she won. This was of course incentive enough! Angela was eager to do all the challenges and won her chosen prize, which she was ecstatic about!

Our team member, Nemily Faulkner said, “I had no idea the ladies were so competitive. When I told them the record for each activity, they all suggested they must have cheated! I love the sound of their laughter.”
