    The Average Rating of 4.543 for Ashbourne Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (229 Excellents x 5) + (110 Goods x 4) + (29 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 368 Ratings = 4.543

If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashbourne Court Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 12.8 positive Reviews (64 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 20 Reviews ÷ 12.8 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My mum was in Ashbourne Court Care Home for 14 months. During this time, my mum needed to invoke end of life care but today she is well enough to return to France to live with me.

During the time at Ashbourne Court Care Home, the family have been encouraged to phone anytime to discuss any concerns and or health needs. My dogs have been able to visit which was a huge plus for my mum as she needed input from family and friends.

The family have always been kept up to date with my mother's care, found the care expensive but hope it makes it worth it to those working with residents and not the admin.

Our stepfather spent the last 5 months of his life in Ashbourne Court. The staff were friendly and made him very welcome, and his room was bright and spacious.
Although in his own words "not a sociable person" he loved to sit at the nursing station and chat with the staff.
When he became ill and was transferred from hospital to the nursing floor at Ashbourne Court for 'end of life' care, he was so pleased to be back there. I cannot praise the staff enough for the care given to him throughout his stay at Ashbourne Court and in the final hours before his death.
My family and I would definitely recommend Ashbourne Court to anyone looking for a retirement care home in Andover.

My mother has become very ill recently and the care in the home has had to change, but despite happy to move floor and room, her needs are still catered for. She has dementia and the staff are very considerate and caring of her needs despite the fact that she can be difficult.

Mother has been at Ashbourne Court since November 2016. She is always very confused but is monitored carefully and well looked after. The staff always ask her if she wishes to take part in activities but respect her wishes when she declines.

Home and Residents are kept spotless, staff always cheerful and the Managers totally approachable.,
The menu looks interesting with a daily choice. Meals and drinks are at regular intervals which breaks up the day for those unable to take part in much.
The Home is always working on new ideas and ways to improve which is refreshing.

Activities are now extending to the dementia floor. These seemed to be lacking at the beginning but now new ideas are being instigated which will help as it is very difficult to maintain a conversation with someone who lacks activity and recall.

Various social activities are organised which open doors to the community as a whole. Ashbourne Court has made both Mothers and my life better. It is a happy Home.

The home is extremely well presented and welcoming.
From the initial assessment and acceptance of my mother into the home, I have nothing but high praise for the staff. There was great attention to details in all aspects of her care and supporting administration.
My mother was treated with the utmost dignity and visitors were always welcomed. As a family member, I was always kept informed of any changed in circumstances.
This home is to be commended for its professionalism, care and friendliness.

Our mother was cared for by the nursing team. We found her level of care excellent. The food menu was changed daily and she had plenty of both mental and activity stimulation if she wanted to join in. The team had her sat by the nurse station if she wanted for an hour or so each day if she wanted extra company. Mum was kept clean at all times right up to her time of passing. The team treated her with dignity at all times. We cannot thank the management and Head Nurse enough - he was the best.

My uncle (89) had two operations in January. I needed to find a place that would give him high-quality convalescence. From the very first day, he settled in well. The staff were absolutely fantastic – every single one from the top down. Their marketing says that they do all the things you want to hear – but they actually do all of them. They are kind, considerate, caring, friendly, encouraging, helpful, friendly and create a happy and active environment. They encourage the family to communicate with the team to make the patients stay as positive an experience as possible. The management are very flexible with the individual requirements and try to understand and accommodate individual needs. He stayed 4 weeks and made a good recovery allowing him to go back home. Uncle said– "If I end up here I would be happy". Praise indeed as one of his biggest fears was leaving his home and he no longer has that fear. I would definitely not go anywhere else should the time come for a permanent solution.

Our friend and neighbour was admitted to Ashbourne Court for end of life care by the Countess of Brecknock Hospice. The staff at Ashbourne Court were extremely kind and caring not only towards our dear friend but also to my Father and I who were her only 'family'. The Staff Nurse on duty over the 24 hours leading to her death was so very knowledgeable about her condition and showed her a great deal of respect and she was allowed to die with dignity. She looked so relaxed and comfortable in her lovely room with her favourite teddy and penguin tucked up in bed with her. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and the home is a very clean and comfortable place, providing a really nice environment for the residents. We were made welcome at all times and kept informed of our friend's progress, which enabled us to be with her when she died. We would thoroughly recommend Ashbourne Lodge to anybody. We are extremely grateful to them for providing such a wonderful environment.

My mother had one year on the residential floor where she was cared for until her Alzheimer's and dementia went to the next, she was 8 and a half weeks on the first floor where she was cared for. Sometimes her illness made her very hard work to look after as she became very aggressive. The staff were excellent in the way they cared for her.

My mother had been in Ashbourne Court Care Home for 5 and a half years (recently deceased). I have been very impressed with the care she received. Her behaviour had been very challenging at times but the dementia floor is very well staffed showing patience and care. I had been kept informed of any falls, doctors visits etc. and had always been able to talk to staff if there was a problem. Staff from laundry, admin, care workers, nurses, cleaners and management are all very welcoming. I can't think of any negatives, to be honest, although the food tended to be the same.

My father who is bedbound was not looking forward to going in for 3 weeks respite.
There has been a remarkable change in him, he is a lot happier, he's now eating properly,
cannot get over the change in him.
He had his review and is now staying in permanently.
The staff are friendly and caring and have helped lift his spirit.
I'm glad he is happier now with the care he should have had sooner.

The staff from the management down are so very caring, the residents are their primary concern and it really shows. They are always coming up with great ideas to entertain them, nothing is too much trouble. The meals are great and varied and they are certainly well fed, bowls of fruit to snack on, mid morning/afternoon teas/coffee. I can't speak highly enough of their commitment to care! Well done- keep up all your very hard loyal work.

My mother was a resident of the Watermills Nursing Unit at Ashbourne Court, for approximately six months until July 2016 when she sadly passed away. My sister and I had chosen Ashbourne Court for her as we felt it was well managed, had good facilities, and most importantly that our mother would receive excellent care there, we were never disappointed. The Watermills team were all truly wonderful and showed such professionalism, kindness, respect and compassion towards our mother at times. Her medical needs were quite complex and challenging but the staff at Ashbourne Court enabled our mother to end her life in a peaceful and dignified was and for that we are truly grateful. We have also appreciated the kindness shown to the family, and it has been a huge comfort to know that our mother was so well cared for throughout her time at Ashbourne Court.

My husband went into Ashbourne Court for 'end of life' care. The staff treated him with compassion and gave him all the care they could. They always made the family very welcome and dealt with any queries and advice we needed. They made his passing as comfortable as possible and gave us all the support they could.

Mother went to Ashbourne Court as she was no longer managing in her own home, she had bad sores on her lower legs. Once settled into her room, the staff at Ashbourne Court ensured she had medical attention, which over time cured the sores. She was encouraged to partake of social events in the common room, which she enjoyed over time, she formed a friendship with several members of staff. On our visits, we never found any course for concern at mum's care.

Pleasing ambience generally. Good choice of colouring and furnishing. Menus should reflect more closely the era of resident's traditional food lifestyle. Any mishaps by residents were promptly dealt with, keeping the area free of odours, maintaining an aura of tidiness and control. Turnover of staff is unsettling for residents, more stability would result in less management time spent on admin and training. Weekly fire alarm testing bad for resident's and visitor's nerves - Could testing be achieved on half-volume? Car parking will always be a problem, request a neighbourly resolution maybe? Quarterly 'residents and carers' were worthwhile and productive.

Bethany Gibbons, Marketing Assistant at Ashbourne Court Care Home responded to this review on 16 Aug 2016:

Thank you for your comments. We welcome all feedback that will help improve our care services.
We are sorry that in this instance we have not been able to achieve excellence in all areas of this review of Ashbourne Court.

We have recently made some changes to our catering service to enhance our resident dining experience and have introduced a new “Spring and Summer Menu” offering a choice of appetising and nutritionally balanced meals. The Ashbourne Court team seeks regular feedback from residents about the choice of meals served and this helps us to plan our menus, ensuring that all meals offered are appropriate for each resident. If there is anything specific your relative would like to be included perhaps this could be discussed the next time you visit our home.

In relation to the fire alarm testing, unfortunately, we are unable to lower the volume of this due to health & safety regulations. But the routine fire alarm tests are planned for and occur every Monday at 10.30am, which staff members and residents are fully aware of, enabling the staff to and support and assist the residents as per their needs.

According to the building structure and parking plan, there is, unfortunately, no more parking facilities available on the premises but we always do our best to accommodate visitors and families. If they haven’t got a parking space please speak to the Receptionist for an alternative arrangement, this is something that has been discussed in the Resident and Relative's meeting.

If there is anything you would like to discuss further, please do not hesitate to contact customercare@brighterkind.com or pop into the home to speak to me anytime. Many thanks, Rajesh Ayyappan, Home Manager.

My mother seems happy and much more stimulated now thanks to the efforts of the staff.

My mother has been a resident for 3 years now and in all that time I have found everybody from management down through all other staff members to be caring, approachable on all subjects, fully aware and considerate to personal needs of residents. Information is passed on quickly to the family so you always feel confident of good care. Ashbourne Court has always been very clean throughout, the catering and laundry services are of a high standard and in the 3 years I have regularly visited the home I have never seen or heard anything that would give me cause for concern.

My mother became a resident at Ashbourne Court, Andover in November 2015, having been looked after by myself and the help of a care agency who visited 3 times a day. She lived alone and it became quite obvious that she needed to have 24 hour care. We took mum to visit Ashbourne Court and she agreed to stay there after a 2 week respite with them. She has been there now for 7 months. Her condition has deteriorated which was expected in my opinion. The staff are very kind and helpful to her, helping her to get the most out of her day.

I have nothing but good things to say about Ashbourne Court - it is very welcoming. Managers and office staff are helpful and make themselves available. Carers treat residents with kindness and compassion. 'Housekeeping' is very thorough and carried out with a smile. The food always looks inviting and is enjoyed by my mum. The activity program is exceptional - there is a great deal of thought given to what the residents would enjoy and there is something on mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday - this makes for a fun time for everyone.

My uncle has been happy and well cared for in this care home. The place is very well managed, always clean. The staff are always very good and care for the residents. Food is fresh produce, prepared fresh daily, always good. I have already recommended Ashbourne Court to others and their relative has moved in.
