Bayford House Does Bake Off

Local Bupa Care Home residents celebrate the return of TV show favourite with a spot of baking.

As The Great British Bake Off returned to our screens this month, Bayford House Bupa Care Home residents donned their aprons to cook up a storm for themselves.

Residents at the Newbury-based care home were inspired by the show’s ‘cake week’ to bake their own sweet treats and share them over a cup of tea. Family recipes were brought to life in the form of fairy cakes, shortbread and other firm favourites.

Residents thoroughly enjoyed putting their aprons back on and reminiscing about baking with children and grandchildren over the years, and the activity brought everyone together.

Rosemary Blake, resident at Bayford House Bupa Care Home, commented on the activity: “When my children were small, baking was a regular occurrence in our house. My daughter loved making cupcakes and decorating them, so that’s what I made today – they were just as tasty as I remember.”

Care Home Manager, Christine Hutchings, added: “All of us here enjoyed refreshing our baking stills. Afternoon tea is a favourite with our residents, and everyone was eagerly anticipating the return of The Great British Bake Off, so we thought it was right to honour the occasion accordingly.

“The team are always coming up with new, interesting and engaging activities to keep everyone entertained. I believe we have a few Mary Berry’s amongst us, so I certainly enjoyed sampling everyone’s delights.”

Set off of Rookwood in Stockcross, Bayford House Bupa Care Home is a friendly community which welcomes residents in need of residential care, as well as assisted living suites. For further information, please visit www.bupa.co.uk.
