Residents and team members at Histon care home, Bramley Court, have followed the yellow brick road this festive season and devised and performed their own pantomime – The Wizard of Oz.
It was performed in the home on December 9th and a video of the performance was shared with friends and families via their Facebook page.
The cast included residents Dr Graham Petrie (89) as the Wizard, David Forbes (70) as the flying monkey and Dorothy Hannant as Dorothy number 2
Other roles were filled by the home’s team members including Alice Paine as Dorothy, Craig Horner as the Scarecrow and Tanya George as the Cowardly Lion.
And, last but not least the cast also included a star turn from the home’s dog Pip, as Toto.
The performance ended with resident Dorothy Hannant (85) dueting ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ with Alice Paine.
Home manager Lisa Houghton said: “As our residents haven’t been able to go to the theatre this Christmas, we thought putting on our own pantomime would be even more engaging for everyone. Our residents love the songs from the Wizard of Oz and often sing them round the piano together, so, we felt it was a fitting choice this year with its rainbow theme. As our families are such a huge part of life here at Bramley Court, it has been lovely to be able to share the video of our performance with them.
“Music and arts are very important in our home and very good for well-being. It’s been a really absorbing project for the residents, with many involved in performing and others enthusiastically making props for the show.”
