CENTENARIAN. Marjorie Nutton celebrates her 100th birthday at Colten Care’s Outstanding-rated Kingfishers care home in New Milton, Hampshire.

A great grandmother and ‘very special lady’ has celebrated her 100th birthday at the Hampshire care home where she has lived for three years.

Marjorie Nutton was the centre of attention at Kingfishers in New Milton, enjoying a party and a visit from her son David.

Hosting the event in line with virus safety guidance, staff at the Outstanding-rated Colten Care home presented her with cards and flowers sent in by friends and community well-wishers.

After Happy Birthday was sung, Marjorie blew out the candles on a birthday sponge cake specially baked by Kingfishers chefs James Bines and Chris Warren and decorated with pink icing and white flowers. Marjorie said: “I loved everything about the day, especially seeing my son and receiving the card from Her Majesty the Queen.”

Born in Warrington, Lancashire, in 1921, Marjorie became an office worker in London, joining the Auxiliary Territorial Service during the Second World War. She was stationed mainly at Luton Hoo, the headquarters of Eastern Command.

After the war, she juggled family life with secretarial work. For several years until retirement, she worked in Wembley for the Hotel & Catering Industries Training Board.

Marjorie lived in Northwood, Middlesex, until 2012 when she moved to Hythe. She has lived at Kingfishers since 2018. In all, Marjorie has four children, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Rose Arcellana, Companionship Team Leader at the home, said: “Marjorie looked beautiful and it was an honour to help her celebrate. She is truly a very special lady.”

Marjorie’s 100th followed the recent birthday of another Kingfishers centenarian, Irene Harris, who turned 104 earlier in March.
