Nappies and Paddies Day Nursery bake a cake for Winifred Dell

The people living at Winifred Dell Care Home in Brentwood were delighted when team members from Nappies and Paddies Day Nursery delivered a freshly baked cake.

Nappies and Paddies Day Nursery is a local nursery and a couple of times a month, the team at Winifred Dell host video calls with the nursery. These intergenerational sessions are enjoyed by both the children and the people who live at Winifred Dell. It provides them with an opportunity to have a chat, play games together and learn from each other.

They are also very beneficial for wellbeing amongst the people living at Winifred Dell as it brightens their day seeing the children smiling and playing games. Residents also enjoy sharing their experiences and stories from the past, which provides valuable life lessons for the nursery children.

During a recent Friday lunchtime, the team at Winifred Dell were surprised when a team member from the day nursery arrived with a freshly baked cake. She explained the children had decided to have a baking week and wanted to make a cake for their friends at Winifred Dell. It was layered with sponge cake, strawberry jam and buttercream icing and topped with a special note from the children.

The team were very thankful and couldn’t wait to show the residents.

When the people living at Winifred Dell saw the cake, they couldn’t believe their eyes. Some people even shed a small tear as it made them emotional seeing the effort they had gone to. Everyone agreed the cake tasted delicious which was enjoyed with their favourite hot drink.

The team are now planning to have a zoom call with the nursery so residents can thank the children personally. They also plan to make thankyou cards to show their appreciation!
