Lee Evans cooks up a storm at St Fillans Care Home

The people living at St Fillans Care Home were starstruck when they heard Lee Evans would be joining their kitchen team. This Lee Evans is not known for his comical stage acts though, but more for his cooking talents!

Lee, who shares his name with a celebrity comedian, started his career as a chef in 1997. He took a college course in North Wales, before working in a kitchen that catered to racing meetings. His early experience was in silver service dining, so Lee knows all about cooking with class and serving esteemed guests.

The schedule was demanding, Lee said, and he began to feel regimented as during some shifts they would work with no break. So, Lee decided to take his experience and join the army.

Lee said that all the chefs in the army had to partake in training with the troops, so they were prepared for anything that could happen. As well as the physical demands, it was also a big change for him in terms of equipment, as the modern appliances he was used to were not set up in training camps over the world, they simply had to cook with what they had in whichever environment they were.

During his time in the army, Lee toured Ireland and Iraq, before joining a kitchen that pre-prepped food to be sent out to soldiers in the Army. He did this role for a few years, before changing roles to cater for people living in care. Lee says working in the care sector is completely different to his previous experience, but very rewarding to hear compliments from people who live in the home.

Lee says he most enjoys cooking desserts and getting creative with the flavours, so the people living at St Fillans are certainly in for a treat! Welcome to the family Lee!
