Nestled in a quiet residential area of St John’s, near Colchester in Essex, beautiful St Fillans Care Home provides a variety of long-term and respite care, including residential, residential dementia, nursing, nursing dementia and end of life care.
With over 30 years’ experience in designing and building care homes, Excelcare has a wealth of knowledge when creating a home from home. As a purpose-built care home, which first opened its doors in 2012, St Fillans was built with comfort, safety and a personal approach to care in mind.
With bright airy lounges and dining rooms, spacious en-suite bedrooms and a variety of different welcoming spaces, which are used by residents and visitors, the design of the home supports comfortable living in beautiful surroundings.
The kind and compassionate team members live in the local community, coming from nearby areas such as Highwoods and Greenstead. They take great pride in caring for the people who live here, just like a loving family. As you would expect from a family-owned and run company, they also provide a friendly, listening ear for residents’ loved ones, too.
At St Fillans, the team are dedicated to ensuring everyone leads a full, active and happy life with an abundance of opportunities to enjoy the things they love, whilst being supported to try new things, too. The Lifestyle Coordinator, supported by the wider care team, hosts a range of group and one-to-one activities throughout the week, meaning there is always something fun going on.
Please don’t hesitate to contact should you wish any further information, the friendly team are always happy to help.

Choosing a care home for Mum was one of the hardest decisions we've had to make, but St Fillans has given us complete peace of mind. The staff are genuinely kind, caring and treat Mum with such warmth and respect. She is encouraged to join in with the many activities on offer, and it's lovely to see there's always something happening to keep residents engaged. The food is good, and nothing ever seems to be too much trouble. What has meant the most to us is how welcoming and accommodating everyone is to family and friends, making every visit feel relaxed and enjoyable. We are so grateful for the care Mum receives and wouldn't hesitate to recommend St Fillans.

My mum has lived at St Fillans for only a few weeks, but she is so happy and loves every aspect of her day. Having caring staff, always someone to chat to, her new friends she says she is never lonely. She loves the meals and most of all the fabulous entertainment, which for my mum it's just...

Anu and her team acted quickly to find us a space (within 24 hours) and went out of their way to try and help Dad, and us, adapt. Not only did they take the time to get to know Dad they provided comfort and support to us at a time that we were in the depths of grief and navigating Dad's terminal diagnosis.
The care and compassion shown to Dad in the final weeks of his life were outstanding and although we'd planned for him to be at home, with St Fillan's he was absolutely in the best place to manage his pain, and ensure he was as comfortable as possible. For this we will always be so grateful, thank you.
It brings us immense comfort to know that your dad was cared for with such compassion and dignity, and that you were able to find solace within St Fillans during what must have been a very difficult time. Your kind words truly mean a great deal to us.

Lovely decorated for themes of Halloween to make it as homely as they can for residents. Lovely to see all the activities listed as you come in to see what planned for the month. All staff keep you informed about whats going on with residents. They have activities booked in for residents to go out or come in for them, eg (they had baby goats). She enjoyed the trip to the seaside for chips. Mother in law seem happy & content.

Lovely home, mum was well looked after and had a wonderful time. Activities are on all the time, they focused on mums routine and took account of her likes and dislikes. Mum was not keen to go but once there had a great holiday, and even said she would be happy to go again. The manager is a gem. The recent fate was lovely as well, they all work so hard to make sure all residents are catered for with hobbies. One big thing was all mums clothes came home no lost items or unknown items appeared this is credit to how they value the people.
