Care home celebrates the big jubilee lunch

Staff and residents at Ouse View in Fulford invited family and friends to join them to celebrate the Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday 5th June 2022.

The ‘Big Lunch’ was first created in 2009 to encourage communities to get to know each other better and it is an initiative that Ouse View has taken part in several times before. This year the home wanted to go bigger and better to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. Head Chef Eve Goodger here at Ouse View crafted the Jubilee buffet menu and everyone was busy making decorations to celebrate sure the home and dining rooms looked their absolute best.

The afternoon was a huge success with a buffet lunch, Jubilee bingo and free raffle for all of the residents. Everyone had a brilliant time joining in with the fun and all the guests agreed the food was an absolute triumph! There were even Jubilee-themed cupcakes and the Queen’s official pudding to add to the festivities.

Rebekka Richardson, General Manager at Ouse View, said: “We have all had such a brilliant time celebrating the Big Jubilee Lunch, it has been such fun. Our staff and residents love the Queen and so they were all so excited to take part. It has been a real collaborative process - thinking about how we wanted to celebrate, planning our activities and decorating the home. It was so lovely to be able to invite our friends and family to come and join us for the celebration too.”

Margot, resident at Ouse View, said: “The Queen is an amazing lady, everyone wanted to get involved in the celebrations. It is remarkable to think she has been on the throne for 70 years, such an achievement! I can just about remember the Coronation, I was very small but I remember the street party we had then and this was just as much fun.”
