Moss View care home, in Huyton, Liverpool, welcomed visitors and guests from the local community to the home to participate in this year’s Care Home Open Week celebrations from 27th June to 3rd July 2022.

The 77-bed friendly, purpose-built home offering residential, nursing and residential dementia care, which is owned by HC-One, was delighted to open its doors to celebrate Care Home Open Week with Residents, Colleagues, friends, family, and the wider community.

Care Home Open Week is a national event hosted by Championing Social Care, designed to connect care homes with their local communities. This year, homes across the UK enjoyed being able to celebrate with communities in person again, having marked the annual event virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moss View’s chosen theme for this year’s Care Home Open Week was ‘Summer Celebration’. Throughout the week, Residents, Colleagues, families and friends enjoyed a variety of fun-filled activities culminating in an end-of-week celebration at the home.

On Friday 1st July, Moss View hosted a variety of fun filled activities, entertainment, and refreshments throughout the day which were enjoyed by all, including meeting Arlo the alpaca and Tufty the miniature horse, who were brought along from ‘Home Safari’ and were a big hit with Residents.

Residents also had a chance to pet other animals including a rabbit, skinny pig, tortoise, gecko, hedgehog, and others too. Everyone was very interested and asked lots of questions.

After lunch, friend of the home from ‘Therapy Pets Nationwide’, Chris, joined Moss View for the open day and brought along Storm, her border terrier. Storm also visited Residents in their rooms.

Vocalist Kevin Mulvaney a favourite with the Moss View Residents, provided entertainment for the day and ‘Barry’s Ice Cream’ pulled up outside the lounge, which was a pleasant surprise for Residents. All enjoyed their ice-cream cones whilst listening to Kevin.

Moss View was decorated especially for the occasion, with bright colours and summer themed décor to complement the theme of the week.

The celebration was a chance for everyone to come together as a community, and to learn more about life at Moss View.

Visitors also enjoyed learning from Colleagues in the home about what a rewarding career in care looks like and finding out about opportunities for community engagement and volunteering roles to support their local care community.

Mary Sebastian, Home Manager at Moss View Care Home, said:

“We were delighted to be able to open the doors of Moss View again to welcome in our local community and bring everyone together to celebrate Care Home Open Week 2022. Everyone had an amazing time.

We are proud to support Huyton, and our Open Week celebrations provided a great opportunity to reconnect with our local community after the challenges of the pandemic, and to support community engagement which is so important to our Residents, Colleagues and the local area.

The week was also a chance for us to showcase what life at Moss View is like, share career and volunteering opportunities, and remind our local community that our kind care teams and facilities are here for them if they ever need support.”
