It was a wonderful day at Druid Stoke Bupa Care Home in Bristol this month, as residents, staff and the local community came together for an Alice in Wonderland themed summer fayre in the gardens of the care home.

Activity Co-ordinators Melodie Daum, and Jodie Lane brought the gardens to life, transforming it into a magical wonderland decorated with toad stools and Queen of Hearts-themed white and red paper roses.

The residents enjoyed a surprise visit from the care team, who were dressed as the Mad Hatter and the Hare. Their grand entrance was followed by a performance from local singer Paula from Spangles entertainment, where she entertained the residents with old school classics.

There was something to be enjoyed by everyone at the fun-filled family afternoon as children revelled in a treasure hunt, whilst other guests enjoyed a Mad Hatters Cream Tea, complete with scones and a Victoria Sponge cake.

Lillian, a resident at Druid Stoke Bupa Care Home, commented: “It was lovely to chat to so many people at the summer fayre. I loved the whole day, but I think my favourite part was the afternoon tea where I got to chat with the Mad Hatter and the Hare!”

Melodie Daum, Activity Co-ordinator at Druid Stoke, commented: “It was so exciting to create our own version of Wonderland for the residents. We were so pleased that so many members of the local community came along and that everyone had such a great time. Seeing the residents’ faces light up at the Mad Hatter and the Hare was definitely a personal highlight.”

Following the success of the Alice in Wonderland themed summer fayre, the Druid Stoke care home team are looking forward to continuing to offer activities, such as flower arranging, piano concerts and aromatherapy, over the coming months that boost the wellbeing of their residents.
