There has been lots happening at Falstone Manor care home in Roker, Sunderland, from trips out to activities which have happened in the care home.

To get prepared for Remembrance Day the Residents were involved in helping to create a Remembrance display for the entrance area of our home. They were asked to join in with an activity making some poppies to hang on the display.

The Residents of the 51-bed nursing, residential and nursing dementia care home were excited to make the poppies and though the display looked amazing.

The Wellbeing Coordinator and Maintenance Operative hung some flags and bunting up outside the front entrance of the home. The display was finished by standing a cut out of a soldier in front of a Union Jack flag.

On Remembrance Sunday both Colleagues and Residents took part in two-minute silence whilst watching the Remembrance Service on tv.

On the 9th November four Residents, Evelyn, Jack, Joyce and Ethel went to Beamish Museum for the day.

Colleagues at the care home contacted Beamish and booked a cottage for the day. When everyone arrived, they were greeted by four ladies who accompanied the group all day.

To start the day the Residents enjoyed a lovely breakfast of toast and crumpets that had been toasted of an open fire. The Residents then sat and reminisced over some old photos of Sunderland and Beamish which was enjoyed by all.

After lunch the Residents had a sing song with one of the lovely ladies playing the piano, this was the Residents favourite part of the day. They ended the day with a lovely cup of coffee before heading home.

Some of the team at Beamish, said, “We loved meeting all of your Residents they were lovely. We’ve had a great afternoon.”

Resident, Evelyn Davison, commented, “I thoroughly enjoyed my day out its years since I’ve been to Beamish, and I really enjoyed it.”

The on the 17th November, Falstone Manor hosted a Christmas Fayre for their Residents and Relatives.

A company called 'Something for everyone' contacted the care home asking if we would be interested in them coming into the home for the annual Christmas Fayre and the home thought it was a great idea!

They very kindly said that for every sale they make on the day they would give us 10% back to put into our Resident Fund.

On the day of the fayre they started to set up as soon as they arrived. They sold everything from Christmas wreaths to candles and wax melts. When they were all set up, the Residents, their families and Colleagues all came for a look around to see what they had to offer. They had some beautiful stuff for sale which was loved by all!

The Residents loved seeing all the decorations for sale, it made them feel all Christmassy.

Christine, a Resident at the care home, said, “I had a lovely time at the fayre, I'm happy that I was able to buy some decorations to make my room Christmassy.”

Emma, Care Manager, remarked, “Everyone had a lovely time especially our Residents, we can't wait to have them back, hopefully soon.
