Vicar Water trip

Vicar Water is beautiful, even on a grey autumnal day its beauty shines through. It is a wonderful place to spend a morning.

This week we took full advantage of a break in the rain and popped along for a stroll around the lake. It felt invigorating to get out in the fresh air and enjoy the landscape. The air was almost still with just the slightest of breeze rustling through the last of the leaves.

Vicar Water is on the site of an old colliery, what once was a bustling coal mine is now a picturesque landscape of grass and woodland offering views of neighbouring counties.

As part of a scheme to tackle the climate emergency, 4000 trees have been planted through the Trees for Climate project. This project has created an area of woodland rich in biodiversity and alongside the lake, which is home to a number of native birds, including our namesake, the kingfisher, provides the perfect environment for insects and wildlife to thrive.

We have such a perfect morning, finished off, as always in the café where we had a chance to sit back, relax, chat, and polish off a pretty decent amount of tea and cake. Sheer bliss.
