The team and residents at Abercorn House Care Home are celebrating after the home was shortlisted for the Scotland Care Home of the Year Award.

The not-for-profit care home, in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, was nominated for a Caring UK Award for the inspirational ways the staff look beyond the residents’ physical and emotional needs, to provide care that truly enriches their lives.

Highlights include their passion for finding out about the life histories and aspirations of the residents, so they can enjoy experiences which are truly meaningful to them and achieve their goals.

A quote from the daughter of one of the residents supporting the nomination read: “I never thought the last part of my father’s life could be so fulfilling as it is now.”

Manager at the Sanctuary Care home, in Low Waters Road, Rowena Alferos said: “We are over the moon to have been named a finalist for this amazing award. Enriching the lives of our residents lies at the core of everything we do at Abercorn and we are enormously proud to be recognised on a national level for achieving this.”

The news comes after Abercorn received a Very Good Care Inspectorate Rating earlier this year, with every area being rated as Very Good.

The team will find out if they have won at an awards ceremony in Leicester, England in December, so watch this space!

The awards are organised by Script Events in conjunction with leading care industry magazine Caring UK, with support from headline sponsor Virgin Money.
