Residents and team members at Hampden Hall Care Centre recently gathered to celebrate the relaunch of the highly successful Lifestyle Pioneer Programme. This initiative, developed by Westgate Healthcare, empowers residents by providing them with meaningful roles within their home, fostering independence, enhancing well-being, and strengthening the community spirit. The Lifestyle Pioneer Programme allows residents to take on roles that align with their interests and passions, giving them a sense of purpose and an opportunity to contribute actively to their home environment. Whether continuing a lifelong hobby or exploring new interests, the programme encourages participation, promoting autonomy and a deep sense of belonging within the care community. Each role is carefully tailored to residents’ preferences and skills, including: • Resident Artist – For those passionate about painting, creating artwork and leading group activities. • Garden Coordinator – For residents with a love for gardening, helping to maintain and beautify outdoor spaces. • Culinary Contributor – For those who enjoy baking, assisting with meal preparation and sharing treasured recipes. • Event Planner – For residents who enjoy organising activities that bring joy and engagement to their peers. These roles keep residents active while reinforcing their ability to contribute in a meaningful way within a supportive and caring environment. Residents such as Bob, Michael, and Paul from Birch Unit; Debbie and Sylvie from Cedar Unit; and Bill, John, and Jean from Pine Unit have embraced various roles over the years, including Bird Watcher, Film and Book Critic, Housekeeper, and Home Post Deliverer. As part of the celebration, residents were presented with items to support their roles. Bob shared his excitement, saying, “I can’t wait to see some of the birds that are in my new book.” Meanwhile, Bill began recommending books, and Michael shared his love for Western films with fellow residents. The event also featured a delightful selection of homemade cakes prepared by Chef Meda, ranging from fresh fruit treats to traditional scones with clotted cream and jam, accompanied by a variety of refreshments. Lucie, Group Wellbeing Manager, expressed her joy at seeing residents engaged, stating, “It was wonderful to come together and recognise our residents’ unique interests and hobbies, enabling and empowering them to continue accessing the lifestyle choices they are passionate about.” Krista, Care Quality Manager at Hampden Hall, added, “Hanna, our Activities and Wellbeing Lead, along with the wider team, consistently provide residents with opportunities to express themselves in ways that are person-centred and resident-driven. This programme allows for individualised activities and interactions that meet their specific needs. We are always evolving, and Lifestyle Pioneers supports this across the home.” As part of the Westgate Healthcare family, Hampden Hall Care Centre remains committed to providing a warm, engaging, and person-centred environment. Through initiatives like the Lifestyle Pioneer Programme, residents continue to build relationships, engage in fulfilling activities, and maintain a strong sense of pride and achievement.
