Kolby Smith, Care Assistant at HC-One’s Bradley Hall Care Home in Leicester, has captured the hearts of his community by donating his hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity dedicated to providing real hair wigs to children and young people battling cancer and other serious illnesses.
After 18-months of patiently growing his hair, Kolby made a selfless gesture that culminated in a joyful community event on Thursday, April 24, where colleagues and residents cheered him on as his locks were snipped for a cause.
The Little Princess Trust not only crafts free wigs to restore confidence and hope for young people facing hair loss but also funds ground-breaking research into kinder, more effective treatments for childhood cancers.
Kolby’s donation will directly contribute to bringing smiles to children during their toughest moments. The haircut turned into a true celebration, with community members taking turns to cut a lock of Kolby’s hair.
Kolby also launched a Just Giving page to raise an impressive £500 to support the charity’s vital work. Sporting a bold new look, Kolby shared:
“I feel like a new man, and I’m so proud to help kids who need it most. Growing my hair was a small sacrifice compared to what these children go through. I hope my donation brings a bit of comfort and confidence to a child in need.”
Sarah Clark, HC-One’s Bradley Hall Care Home Manager, commented:
“Kolby’s selfless act to grow his hair for The Princess Trust is truly inspiring. It has not only brought our community together but also made a meaningful difference for children facing serious illnesses.
“We’re incredibly proud of his commitment and the joy this event brought to our residents and colleagues.”
Wendy Tarplee-Morris, The Little Princess Trust founder, said:
“We are so grateful to Kolby for his fantastic support. His wonderful hair donation and brilliant fundraising will be a huge help to us as we continue to provide real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people with hair loss.
“We are now helping more children than ever before, but we can only do this thanks to some very special people like Kolby!”
