A Day to Remember

Sunday 20 April proved to be a truly special moment for one of our residents, Ian. He had the chance to attend the Fulham v Chelsea match thanks to complimentary tickets generously provided by the Fulham Foundation. A lifelong football fan, Ian has lived in the West London area for many years but had never set foot inside the club’s ground, Craven Cottage. That all changed with this unforgettable outing. As we walked into the stadium, the atmosphere was electric, and Ian's face lit up with excitement as he heard the cheers, chants, and buzz of the crowd. He wasted no time getting into the spirit of the match. He enjoyed some tasty snacks, joined in with the fans’ chants, and chatted enthusiastically with others around us. True to form, he even provided his own running commentary on the game, drawing laughs and nods from fellow spectators. “This is just brilliant,” Ian said. “I’d love to do this more often. It’s nice to experience something like this… because we don’t know how long we live for.” His words were a touching reminder of how powerful moments of joy and community can be. Ian also suggested that it would be wonderful if more residents could join in on future outings. “It’d be great to go as a group,” he said. “When’s the next one?” This experience highlights the importance of meaningful engagement and creating opportunities for connection, fun, and fulfilment. For Ian, it wasn’t just about the football, it was about feeling part of something again. Fulham lost the game 1-2 but even that didn’t seem to take the gloss of the day for him. We are incredibly grateful to the Fulham Foundation for making this day possible.
