A care home in Blacon has been taking part in regular music therapy sessions with pupils from a local primary school.
Residents at HC-One’s Lauren Court care home, in Blacon, Chester, have been welcoming visitors fortnightly from Dee Point Primary School, also in Blacon.
The sessions are facilitated by the award-winning Live the Beat organisation, led by Amanda Wrigley, which aims to create musical experiences for a range of groups including children in the early years of learning and older people in care settings.
Racheal Ashman, Lauren Court’s Home Manager, said: “We are always looking at new ways to support our residents, and having seen previously how much of a positive impact music can have on older people I was excited to see how Live the Beat’s sessions would go down.
The response was fantastic! The lounge was packed out with residents, and the children from Dee Point School interacted with the residents beautifully.
We have a really great relationship with Dee Point School, including having several residents who have pen pals with pupils there. They often come to sing for us as well, which is always lovely.
We are so pleased to be continuing with the fortnightly music therapy sessions and have had to move to a larger lounge now as the parents of the children are also asking to come in and get involved! It is a wonderful project.”
