Milford House Launches Its 'Arts in Care Homes' Programme

Residents at Milford House Care Home in Salisbury have just embarked on their artistic programme leading up the 24th September which is the National Activity Providers Association's (NAPA) 'Arts in Care Homes Day'. The theme for this year is 'Going Green.' On the day itself the home will be having a display at Hobbycraft in Salisbury and will be running an 'Art Open Day' in-store in the crafting room.

Milford's programme and display is entitled 'GREEN SHOOTS' to demonstrate and reflect that every artistic activity that takes place, however varied, is a green shoot that can lead to something wider - a feeling or emotion, the key to unlocking a memory, the development of a skill, a sense of pride and achievement, a sense of belonging and inclusion through participation in a wider project , and that each resident, either individually or as part of a group, can take part and contribute in a way that is person-centred, reflects their interests and works for them.

General Manager Aga Musial commented 'We are so excited about taking part in this and it gives a real focus to our varied artistic activities which are so popular with our residents. This week we welcomed Liz Tanner, a local artist and weaver, for a weaving workshop where residents worked on colourful squares reflecting the colours of flowers in our gardens using waste and recycled materials, so we were definitely going green!'

The home has a range of other events taking place to support the programme including another weaving workshop, a glass fusion workshop and displaying resident's work at the 'Art in the Square' event in Salisbury on 7th September. There are also 'Art Open Days' at the home in July and August open to the local community.
