Barber Visit Brings Style and Smiles

At Westgate Healthcare, we always look for ways to boost resident wellbeing. Sometimes, that means bringing the barbershop to them.

Recently, St Pauls Care Centre and Burford House welcomed Keith, a professional from Dementia Friendly Barbers. He delivered traditional grooming sessions just for our gentlemen. These visits weren’t only about haircuts. They offered connection, confidence and care.

A Classic Experience at St Pauls Keith transformed the lounge at St Pauls into a traditional barbershop. There was a jukebox, friendly conversation and plenty of smiles. Residents enjoyed hot towel shaves, fresh trims and a splash of aftershave to finish.

The visit brought joy and confidence. Ian said, “I feel like a new person.” Mike called it “a pleasant experience.” Lewis, who is non-verbal, smiled the whole time. His wife shared, “He hasn’t had his hair cut properly in years. He looks so much younger, healthier and fresher.”

Warmth and Laughter at Burford House At Burford House, the experience was just as special. The gentlemen were excited for their turn. Keith delivered sharp cuts, friendly chat and a warm atmosphere.

The visit sparked memories and conversation. One team member said, “You could see the difference right away. The smiles, the posture, the energy—it was brilliant.”

Why Dementia-Friendly Grooming Matters Keith has more than 20 years of experience and holds an NVQ Level 2 in barbering. Through the Dementia Friendly Barbers programme, he visits care homes to offer gentle, personalised grooming in a safe setting. These visits are designed to support comfort, routine and social connection.

Just last week, Hampden Hall Care Centre also welcomed Keith. The feedback from residents and families has been overwhelmingly positive.

Thank you to Keith and Dementia Friendly Barbers for bringing style, care and connection to our homes.
