Residents at RMBI Care Co. Home Prince George Duke of Kent Court, in Chislehurst, have recently teamed up with the local community to create tasty decorative bakes in Hextable.

Armed with a variety of coloured icing and sprinkles, the residents decorated chocolate cupcakes with floral and star designs. The session brought back wonderful memories for some of the residents. Pat, who used to attend evening classes for cake decorating, said: “I had so much fun chatting with others while creating garden-themed cakes. I feel young again!”

Research has shown that older people can enjoy numerous benefits from participating in community events, including combating social isolation, improving physical and mental health, and to foster a sense of belonging.

Diane, one of the Activities Coordinators at Prince George Duke of Kent Court, commented: “Our residents love cakes and socialising amongst the local community, so this event was perfect. As well as being lots of fun, the session aimed to encourage reminiscence amongst residents, which benefits both mental and physical health as we age.”
