Belinda Bell celebrates her diamond wedding anniversary this year and though husband Peter can no longer live at home, she has peace of mind in knowing he is safe and comfortable at Pine Martin Grange.
“It is an incredibly beautiful place with lovely people who look after residents to an extent I couldn’t believe,” said Belinda.
“Peter has severe dementia, he lives in his own world but feels completely safe here because so many people are so kind and will stop to say hello and ask how he is.”
Peter, 87, moved to Pine Martin Grange after being hospitalised through a bout of covid. Belinda was told that due to his increasing dementia he couldn’t live safely at home.
Belinda, 80, knew of Pine Martin’s standards through previously visiting a couple she knew who were already living at the home.
“It takes away so much worry to know he is being taken good care of. When I visit, I know he will be up and dressed and have enjoyed breakfast,” she said.
The couple met when Belinda worked in a travel agency and Peter was a young accountant booking a trip to Wales. They me up the next day and have been together ever since, travelling the world and raising a family of four children which now includes seven grandchildren with ages ranging from five to 27
“They all come to visit and are made welcome,” said Belinda. “The youngest loves to use the hot chocolate machine to get drinks for people, there are colouring books and games and one of our daughters will bring in her golden retrievers for some pet therapy.”
There is a wide-ranging activity programme which residents can take part in or watch or simply do their own thing.
“Peter loves to walk about and there are big wide corridors and gardens he can do that in, with plenty of seats just to sit down on when he wants.” said Belinda.
