It will be no time until Strictly season is well and truly upon us and the staff at Burwood Grange in Walton On Thames decided it was high time their residents brushed up their dancing skills! Cue Simon Guntrip, a talented local ballroom dancer who came along to put them through their paces.
Staff and residents at Burwood Grange were in for a real treat when Simon came to visit. First he started with a performance for the residents, before getting them to dust off their dancing shoes and get up on their feet to learn the moves themselves. Simon was brilliant with the residents, tailoring the class to their differing abilities and making sure everyone was included. He included all sorts of different dances including the waltz, tango, swing and cha cha cha. Everyone at the home had a fantastic time singing and dancing along, so much so they’ve already asked when Simon can come back again for another class, it looks like it could become a regular thing!
Ballroom teacher, Simon Guntrip, commented: “What a fabulous way to spend the afternoon, I absolutely loved dancing with the residents – they all really enjoyed the session. It was so lovely to get everyone up and moving, remembering dances from years gone by – it is amazing how the steps come back to you. I can’t wait for our next session!”
Dacre Lassauniere, General Manager at the home, said: “We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Burwood Grange, activities like this are so important for mobility and for reminiscence. It was so wonderful to see how happy the residents were dancing and swaying along to the music. Simon is a fantastic teacher.”
