In our latest BCG in Bloom spotlight, the team and residents at BCG Ruthven Towers in Auchterarder have been hard at work all summer, dramatically transforming their garden.
Ruthven Towers’ Activities Coordinator, Louise, tells us: “Our project has been very much a community effort, with a strong focus on recycling, reusing, and reimagining everyday items to create something both sustainable and enjoyable.
“In our patio garden, we transformed donated items from families and the wider community. These were painted and repurposed to give them a new life. We’ve also introduced a compost bin to reduce waste and made water catchers from old milk bottles, ensuring that our garden is environmentally friendly. For a touch of summer fun, we built a Tiki bar, which became a highlight when we hosted a cocktail and mocktail afternoon for our residents. We have also painted our fence to give it a bit of colour, which residents and children from the community helped complete.
“In the Ochil garden, we added new plants and creative decorations. The handrail was painted, to give it a fresh look. An old bird table was refurbished with fresh paint, and we were given a mountain bike which we restored, added a basket filled with a vibrant fuchsia, and perched our very own homemade scarecrow on it. Together, these touches have brought character and charm to the space.”
