Ruthven Towers Care home is set in tranquil, leafy grounds just off "Lang Toon".
The building used to be an elegant country house hotel and evidence of the splendour and glamour of the former hotel is still very much part of today's architecture.
The home has recently benefitted from a major, sensitive renovation, and now provides 51 rooms, many with stunning views over the gardens and the rolling Perthshire countryside....

Lots of chat and showing an interest in her.
Information flow is good about events and changes.
When visiting access / egress can be delayed at times when staff are busy. Understand the need for security but a wee look at this for visitors would be appreciated.
Medical updates are timely and action taken without prompting.
Food choice and helping with selection of dishes could be looked at.
The highlight is the staff they are brilliant.

My wife has been resident here for over 8 years and is bedbound. Over this period, she has received great attention and care. She has lot her speech so I have completed this form to the best of my ability. Some of the questions aren't relevant.
Thank you for taking the time to prepare and send in this excellent review of Ruthven Towers. It's heartening to know that you're satisfied with the great care and attention taken by the team. They'll be really pleased to read this. Thanks again.
Fantastic staff, caring, thoughtful.
Great facilities, clean, welcoming, bright, and friendly. It's like visiting dad at "home", not a care home.
Thank you for sending in this fantastic review of Ruthven Towers. It's an absolute pleasure for the team to meet your dad's needs and go the extra distance wherever possible. They'll be delighted to read this. Thanks again.
For a period of 6 months my dad has been in nursing care, however, there has been no social, mental for physical stimulation for the residents. Poor service throughout.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your review, we truly appreciate you taking this time. All feedback plays a valuable role in informing how we move forward, and we take it very seriously, acting swiftly wherever necessary. We're sorry to hear that your experience regarding your...
The care staff are excellent & go above and beyond in care for my mother. Her physical and mental health are great. Communication from the staff to me, as her next of kin, is excellent. There are various activities available for my mother & her health conditions are kept on top of. She has a far better quality of life here than she did before her admission.
Thank you for taking the time to write this excellent review of Ruthven Towers. It's lovely to hear that you see all the benefits of our team's care first hand and that your mother is feeling the benefit. They'll be delighted to read this. Thanks again!
She is settled and comfortable in her new surroundings. We are all grateful for her care.
Mary is delighted with everything especially if she gets her cuppa tea!
Thank you for sending in this lovely review. It's wonderful to know that your mum has settled in nicely at Ruthven Towers. I'll be sure to share this with the management there and their hardworking team.
My mum moved into Ruthven Towers on the 25th of April, she really loved it, she loved all the staff, as they are very friendly and give her the care she needs and looks after her well.
Thank you so much for taking the time to submit this great review. It's lovely to know how happy your mum is at Ruthven Towers and that she's settled in so well. It's also nice to hear how highly you both think of the team's hard work in every aspect of her care. They will be delighted to see this.
My auntie's experience in staying at Balhousie Ruthven Towers Care Home is not good. She has no problems with the staff, they are friendly and always very busy. The food is not good, as by the time it gets down to her room it's either warm or cold. There's no taste to the food as it's all been frozen, nothing cooked from fresh. My brother can come down from buying fish and chips, parking car, waiting to be let in, signing in then walking down to the bottom floor and to room and the fish and chips are still hot. My aunty likes her food piping hot. She has only met the manager once if met her, the manager should be visiting residents weekly.
Thank you very much for taking the time to add a review. We always welcome feedback and really appreciate you reaching out with your concerns. It is so lovely to hear how friendly you find the staff at Ruthven Towers. We are also sorry to hear that you have been disappointed with certain aspects of...
Mum had a beautiful room and was well looked after by caring staff. My don't concern was the arrival of another patient who frequently entered Mum's room. This was mentioned on day 1 but unfortunately happened throughout her week's stay.
Thank you so much for writing your review around your mum's respite stay. We're so glad your worries about the stay were quickly dispelled, and she received the good care and attention you, and we, would expect. We have noted your concern regarding another resident, and have passed this on to the...
2. Despite spending my own time trying to improve things including looking through menus and writing suggestions, the food in the main is very poor. There should be something that I want to eat and finish 7 days a week.
3. Some staff have good hand/glove hygiene, others don't.
4. Incorrect information has been recorded about me on a system.
5. It is an ordeal having a shower.
6. The serving utensil fell onto the floor from the heated trolley. A kitchen porter put it back onto the trolley to be used to serve food. That is not hygienic.
7. The room is called a suite. The worktops are too high for someone who is seated. I couldn't pour water from the kettle because of this. The shower room leaves a lot to be desired, I wouldn't want to linger in there.
8. Younger carers want to put bedding that is to be used on the floor until I tell them not to.
Thank you very much for taking the time to add a review. All feedback is so important to us and we are sorry to hear that you have been disappointed with certain aspects of the home. We understand that you have been involved in devising menus with the Ruthven Towers’ chef to give you more menu...
I worried that my husband would be in a room on his own most of the time, but this is not the case, and he has options of a TV lounge or a smaller, quieter place.
Despite Alzheimer's and a stroke, he knows the staff and always seems happy when I visit. One thing he does enjoy is the food, and this is excellent.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. It's lovely to hear that your husband has got to know the staff and is happy when you visit. We will be sure to pass on your comments to the hardworking team at Ruthven Towers.
My mother was in Ruthven Towers for a very short period (ten days). In this time, she was cared for in an exemplary manner by all the staff she came into contact with. Apart from excellent personal care, they engaged with her in a most caring and empathetic way. Nothing was too much trouble for them and she took to all of the staff right away. Unfortunately, she deteriorated very quickly and the nursing, and palliative care she received was second to none. In her time there it was a great comfort to all of us that she was so well cared for until the end of her life. Apart from looking after my mum, their care extended to our family and we are very grateful for that.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review at such a difficult time. We are so pleased to hear how caring and empathetic the team at Ruthven Towers were with your mother and your family in her final days, and how this brought great comfort to you all. We will be sure to pass on your...
Room and home are clean and safe. Activities to keep my mother engaged. On-hand medical support for my mother.
Mother enjoys the food and meals provided.
Thank you for your kind review. It's lovely to hear about the excellent care that your mother has received at Ruthven Towers. Also, how much she enjoys the various activities. We'll be sure to pass on your words to the hardworking staff.
Staff are pleasant, courteous and take time with all the residents to ensure their stay is as comfortable as possible. Ev-suite rooms are spacious in a large, country house set in the Perthshire town of Auchterarder. Regular activities, meal breaks and tea and cake allow individuals to interact and maintain contact and stimulate senses and keep residents involved and content.
Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. It's so lovely to hear how pleasant and courteous you find the staff when caring for the residents. We will be sure to pass on your kind comments to the team. Thank you again.
I have seen that my mother is being well looked after by the staff also they encourage her to participate in all the activities.
Thank you very much for your lovely review. We are so glad to hear you're happy with the care your mother is receiving at Ruthven Towers. We'll pass on your kind words to the hard-working team, who will be so glad to read them. Thanks again!
We were delighted to get my mother out of the hospital and into local care that could cope with and improve her physical and mental condition. My mother has improved significantly in all aspects since she came to Ruthven Towers. Some small problems/issues - but overall good.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review for our Ruthven Towers Team. It is especially good to hear how much your mother has improved since joining the home. We'll be sure to pass this on to our staff. Thank you once again.
Very good care home with high standards, in a very nice building setting. The staff are extremely professional whilst being super friendly. If I have one comment it would be that quite painful escalating fees could probably see investment in additional staff… shared pain between provider and paying family as it were. Overall, very happy with mum’s total care. A recommended care home indeed.
Thank you for your lovely review of Ruthven Towers. We feed back all comments to senior management so will certainly share this with them.
My mum has been living in Balhousie Ruthven Towers Care Home now for a year. My sister and I came to realise that mum required professional care last May, after being diagnosed with vascular dementia at the age of 86. We chose Ruthven Towers in Auchterarder primarily for its location and on a recommendation. We have, without a doubt, made the right choice! Mum has been receiving excellent care and personal attention throughout a most difficult year. The staff have all been superb in dealing with unprecedented challenges and I can't thank them enough for everything they do for my mum and the other residents. Weekly window and outside visits were both emotional and stressful, how wonderful it is to visit mum in her lovely room and enjoy a coffee together!
Thank you so much - we're so happy to hear that Ruthven Towers has been a good choice for your mum and you and your sister.
Mum is always immaculate in her appearance and her accommodation is spotless. I wish I could name all the staff individually and thank them for their excellent care and attention. The activities coordinators do a great job too.
All Covid guidelines are adhered to in line with the Scottish government.
Thank you so much for this lovely review, and for taking the time to write it. It will be a great boost to our hardworking team at Ruthven Towers.
It’s been hard not seeing my father, but we talk regularly on the phone as well as having “window” visits, and his main concern is us on the “outside”. This wouldn’t be the case if he didn’t feel safe and happy at Ruthven towers. He absolutely adores many of the staff, who all find time for a wee blether, and he’s not slow to remind us of how lovely they all are. I very much get the feeling that the no one aim at Ruthven Towers has been not only to keep the residents safe and well, but to keep them happy too, and that has been a great comfort to us. Well done all.
Thank you so much for your kind words, which we will be sure to pass on to the team at Ruthven Towers.
