Exemplar Health Care open first care home in Kirklees

Exemplar Health Care is proud to announce the official opening of Lepton Heights, our brand-new care home in Huddersfield. The home provides high-quality, person-centred support for adults living with complex health needs.

On 2 September 2025, colleagues and residents gathered to mark the occasion with an official opening. The event that showcased the home, celebrated the people who helped bring it to life, and underlined our ongoing commitment to supporting communities across Kirklees.

A special day for Huddersfield

The ceremony was led by the Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Liz Smaje. The Councillor took a tour of the home and gave a heartwarming speech, before declaring the home open.

Her touching words spoke warmly about the positive impact Lepton Heights will have on the local community. She emphasised the importance of high-quality care provision for those living with complex needs.

“I welcome this important investment into Huddersfield,” she said. “It brings a much-needed new home to the region for local people with complex care needs. Giving local people a new home, closer to their friends and family.”

The Mayor unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the special occasion. She was joined by members of the Exemplar Executive Team, symbolising our commitment to care across Yorkshire.

A home designed for the people we support

Visitors from the building contractors and architects were invited to the event. They were given a chance to see first-hand how the thoughtfully designed spaces make Lepton Heights a home where people can thrive.

This purpose-built environment is designed to support adults living with complex needs arising from: • Dementia • Mental health conditions • Neuro-disabilities and acquired brain injuries • Physical disabilities

The home features 40 en-suite bedrooms, and three single occupancy apartments. Each room designed with comfort, dignity, and accessibility in mind.

The home is designed to promote small, friendly communities - helping to create a sense of familiarity and belonging for residents. The home is split into three units - each with their own living spaces and quiet areas for reflection.

In addition, specialist facilities such as therapy spaces, sensory rooms, and safe outdoor areas, support independence and wellbeing.

Celebrating teamwork and partnership

The event was also an opportunity to thank the many people who contributed to making Lepton Heights a reality. Building contractors and architects who worked on the project joined the celebrations. Highlighting the strong partnerships that ensured the home’s development remained focused on residents’ needs from start to finish.

Exemplar Health Care’s Service User Ambassador for Yorkshire attended to see the newest home and meet the new residents. Their involvement across our homes demonstrates our belief that the voices of people living in our services should guide the way homes are continually improved.

Supporting complex care across West Yorkshire

The opening of Lepton Heights reflects Exemplar Health Care’s investment in the Kirklees region. Where the demand for high-quality complex care continues to grow. The home will create over 100 jobs for local people. Ranging from nursing and care roles, to activities coordinators and support roles, contributing to the local economy as well as the community.

Lepton Heights offers a new opportunity to place people in a safe, supportive, and clinically-led environment, that provides support for people living with complex care needs. Our nurse-led team provides person-centred nursing care that maximises independence, and promotes positive outcomes.

As Lepton Heights begins to welcome residents, the focus remains on creating a welcoming home for people - one where they feel valued, supported, and empowered. The official opening was a proud moment for everyone involved, but it is only the beginning of the journey.
