From Cricket to Care: Linu’s Inspiring Journey

Team Leader at Windmill Lodge Care Home, Linu Mon, recently shared his inspirational story and sporting talents with us.

Known in the cricketing world as Linu Stanly, his story is one of passion, resilience, and determination, both on the cricket field and in his role as a dedicated carer.

Linu’s love for cricket began at the age of ten, playing with friends in his neighbourhood. His natural talent quickly shone through, earning him a place on his school team. By fifteen, Linu was representing his district, winning competitions, and progressing to state-level training camps. A gifted fast bowler and batsman, his future in cricket looked bright. However, an unfortunate shoulder injury forced him out of the game for nearly four years. Doctors advised him not to play again, but Linu’s passion for cricket never faded. With persistence and strength, he returned to the sport, not only regaining his form but excelling beyond his previous level.

His career took him overseas when he was offered the chance to play for a team in Qatar, where his outstanding performance led to an exclusive player contract. Even after being told he could only bat due to his injury, Linu defied the odds and proved himself as both a bowler and batsman once again.

When the pandemic struck, Linu found himself in India for his brother’s wedding, unable to return to Qatar. But every challenge brought a new opportunity. Eventually, he moved to the UK to continue pursuing his cricketing dreams.

Today, Linu plays professionally for EMCC Cricket Club, where he has been an integral part of the team for the past two years. His achievements include being named Best Bowler and ranking among the top five players in the league in 2024. On the National Bowling Honours Board (May 2023), Linu proudly holds first place, and on the Essex Bowling Honours Board, he claims second place - remarkable achievements that showcase his talent and determination.

At Windmill Lodge, we are equally proud of Linu’s contributions off the field. Shortly after joining Excelcare’s team, he was awarded Employee of the Month for his compassion, dedication, and outstanding work as a carer.

Linu’s journey is a powerful reminder that passion and perseverance can overcome even the toughest challenges. We are delighted to support him in both his professional career in care and his continued success in cricket. With his talent and tenacity, we believe the future is incredibly bright for Linu, and we couldn’t be prouder to have him as part of the Windmill Lodge family.
