Bicester care home resident and wife honour 70 years of marriage

HC-One’s Launton Grange Care Home, in Bicester, had the pleasure of celebrating a remarkable milestone on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, as resident David and his beloved wife Barbara marked their 70th wedding anniversary surrounded by family.

To celebrate their platinum celebration, the team at Launton Grange organised an intimate tea party complete with champagne and a spectacular homemade cake crafted by the home’s talented Head Chef, Vickie Plested. David and Barbara were married at Botley Road Church on September 24, 1955, a place deeply woven into their family’s history.

Every member of their family has celebrated both weddings and baptisms in the very same church. The river beside it even holds fond memories for Barbara, who learned to swim there as a child.

Barbara’s brother, Gordon, proudly stood as best man – though his presence on the big day required a special request to the Navy for 24 hours of leave in order for him to attend. Reflecting on the milestone, Annie Merry, Front of House Manager at Launton Grange, shared:

“It’s such a privilege to be able to support the family in celebrating such special milestones. Barbara and David are an inspiration to us all, and we are delighted to have made this day so memorable for them.”

When asked their secret to a long and happy marriage, David and Barbara said:

“If you are happy in your relationship now, keep things that way. Don’t let anything get in the way.”
