Today is National Poetry Day, and it feels especially meaningful for us as we remember our lovely resident Pat. Recently, it marked the anniversary of her passing. Pat had a true love for poetry—she enjoyed listening to poems, reciting them, and sharing her favourite verses with others. Her most treasured poem was “Halfway Up the Stairs.”

To honour her memory, Pat’s family had a beautiful cake made with her favourite poem written across it, and they kindly brought it to the home. It was such a thoughtful way to remember Pat together, celebrating the words she loved so much.

Poetry holds a special place in our hearts here, and today we’ve also been creating our own poems with residents—keeping alive the joy of words, rhythm, and reflection that Pat so deeply cherished. ??
