Catherine House resident cheers on their local Somerset football team

There was plenty of excitement at Badgers Hill as Luis, a resident from Catherine House Care Home, joined supporters to watch Frome Town Football Club take on Falmouth Town in the Southern League Division One South.

Luis was also joined by two other residents from neighbouring Frome Nursing Home, who had been invited to enjoy the day with him, sharing in the sense of friendship and community you’d find when living at home among neighbours and friends.

The match was more than just ninety minutes of football, it was a lively community afternoon, with Luis showing his support from the sidelines as matchday sponsor representing Catherine House. The home’s banner lined the perimeter of the pitch, and the home was featured in The Robin, Frome Town’s official matchday programme.

Team Member Anita, who went along to the game with Luis, said he could hardly contain his excitement.

“Luis was really looking forward to going,” shared Anita. “When we got there, he put his hand up and said, ‘Yes, we’re here!’ We had chips and a hot dog while watching the match and cheered loudly when Frome scored! It was an incredible moment when Luis recognised someone in the crowd and called out to them, which led to a lovely chat. He got really involved in the game, and when Frome scored again, he gave an even bigger cheer with his arms in the air. It was a very enjoyable day for everyone.”

As the final whistle blew, the excitement continued. Anita spoke with the organisers about sharing photos of the match for everyone back at the home, and Luis was soon joined by several Frome Town players who came over to greet him personally! They chatted, shook hands, and posed for a few photos, a genuine moment of connection between local heroes and one of their most enthusiastic supporters.
