Ebor Court Christmas Wish Inspires Shoebox Appeal for Children in Need

This Christmas, residents and colleagues at HC-One’s Ebor Court Care Home in Nether Poppleton, York, are spreading festive cheer by taking part in Operation Christmas Child, the Samaritan’s Purse shoebox appeal, all inspired by one resident’s heartfelt wish to help children around the world.

Resident Shirley Jones, who has long been moved by television reports of children living in hardship, shared with Lifestyle Manager Denise Cooper her desire to make a difference this Christmas. Together, they decided to take part in the Samaritan’s Shoebox Appeal, creating gift-filled shoeboxes to bring joy to children in need across the globe.

Between now and 10th November, the team at Ebor Court Care Home will be collecting donations to fill the boxes, ahead of the official collection week from 10th–17th November.

Anyone who would like to help make Shirley’s special Christmas wish come true is warmly invited to contribute. Donations can be dropped off at Ebor Court Care Home, for the attention of Lifestyle Manager, Denise Cooper.

Items suitable for inclusion in the shoeboxes include small toys such as cuddly toys, toy cars, dolls, footballs and pumps, fidget spinners, skipping ropes, yoyos, puzzles, building blocks, and musical instruments. School supplies like pens, pencils, sharpeners, crayons, rulers, and erasers are also welcome, along with other fun and practical items such as finger puppets, spinning tops, slinkies, or travel games.
