Reviews

9 Ebor Court has a Review Score of 9 (8.976)

The Review Score of 9 (maximum of 10) for Ebor Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 24 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Ebor Court in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.429 for Ebor Court is calculated as follows: ( (154 Excellents x 5) + (111 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 287 Ratings = 4.429

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.547 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ebor Court is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 12.8 positive Reviews (64 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 7 Reviews ÷ 12.8 Target = 0.547

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My Mother moved into Ebor Court earlier this year. She is on the second floor.

I am extremely pleased with the care and attention she receives. The food is of a good standard and there appears to be frequent activities.

My mother appears to have settled in well at Ebor Court even though she has had to be moved already and there is talk of a further move ( not good for someone with dementia) As I live a good distance from York I have not been able to visit much however on the occasions I have been everything appears to have been in order and satisfactory.

I am thrilled that my mother has settled well into Ebor. The staff have made great efforts to encourage and include her and Christmas was very special. The choice and frequency of activities are excellent. All staff are thoughtful, kind and attentive. I am extremely happy with the catering and the encouragement is given to residents to enjoy a cup of tea at any time of day. Visitors are always welcome and the atmosphere is relaxed and happy. The building is bright and airy. Rooms are kept clean but occasionally hand sanitizer and paper towels run out so a frequent check on these supplies would be appreciated. My only real concern is the laundry system. We are frequently not receiving my mother's laundry back despite it being labelled correctly. This is disappointing as it is a service included in the recent fee increase. May I suggest your laundry system requires review? Overall, well done to all staff at Ebor Court for creating a lovely, homely and safe environment.

Thank you for taking the time to review Ebor Court. Ideal Carehomes appreciates all feedback about our homes and following your review and we are delighted that your Mother has settled into the home so well. Our Home Manager operates an open door policy and will discuss your specific concerns with you when you visit the home. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact our customer services team on 0113 385 3570.

From what I see from the day to day care my father receives, I feel the majority of the staff are doing their best for all the residents at Ebor Court. The staff are trying to spend quality time with residents but I have noticed they have never ending paperwork to try to fit in too!
I feel maybe there aren't enough staff on duty at times. The care Dad gets is excellent, the carers seem to do their best to understand his needs, which can change hourly.
I would like to see more activities where residents are encouraged to join in more. Also maybe more small/short trips out for just coffee, these then wouldn't be too expensive and residents could maybe get out more often.
The meals sound very good, Dad says they are excellent on the whole, but there now seems to be a lack of homemade cakes available, as there was when he first went in.
I have noticed that on the whole, Dad receives excellent care and I feel confident that he is safe at all times, which is the main thing.

Thank you for taking the time to review Ebor Court. Ideal Carehomes appreciates all feedback about our homes and following your review would like to advise you that Staff complete mandatory paperwork during their shift, to ensure they are visible at all times for residents. We feel this is preferable to being off the floor. We agree that more homemade cakes should be available and when the new chef starts in early May, will be ensuring there are plenty for everyone. We hold monthly Social Committee Meetings with our residents to ensure the activities represent their choices and will forward your suggestions to our team at the home. Our Home Manager operates an open door policy and would be happy to discuss any concerns you have, next time you visit the home. If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to contact our Customer Services team on 0113 385 3570.

The activities are good, residents seem happy and well cared for. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and pleasant. It is a modern building which is light and airy. I would recommend this care home.

My father had a chest infection which the staff on the ground floor picked up on early due to changes in his behaviour. The GP was called and he was treated immediately. Unfortunately, the initial antibiotics didn't clear the problem and dads behaviour and demeanour got worse (dementia-related). He was very unsettled and on a visit by my husband and myself became somewhat aggressive towards me, as I couldn't get him to understand he lived at Ebor Court (for 2 years). I was understandably upset but the ground floor staff were brilliant. The one staff member dad remembers, sat with him and sent us to the lounge where the other staff looked after us, talked us through the whys and wherefores of dads problem, gave hugs and cups of tea and returned us to a much calmer and contrite dad, still very confused but realising he was in a safe caring place. I cannot fault the staff at Ebor Court in dad's care at all times but their skill, knowledge and patience deserve a medal at times like this!

As my mother's health deteriorated it was agreed that she should stay at Ebor Court and not be moved to hospital. Her dementia was treated with dignity at all likes. The compassion shown to both herself and her family was excellent. The family were welcomed at any time.
We will always be grateful to the care which she received at Ebor Court during her final days there. I would definitely recommend this care home to others.

When my grandmother moved into Ebor Court a year ago, we were thrilled with the staff, the building, everything. Since then the fees have increased by about 12% and it has gone from a CQC good rating to 'requires improvement', prominent staff appear to have left and they seem stretched. My grandmother's room is not kept sufficiently clean, particularly the bathroom area and I do not get the number of updates about her that I used to get. The staff who work with the residents genuinely care and are really wonderful with them, but it's all the other little things that are missing (see the July CQC report for details) that makes me wonder whether we have made a very costly mistake in choosing Ebor Court.

This is a light and bright care home with ample communal spaces. My mother settled in here quickly, and is happy amongst the other residents and enjoys their company. The carers are very attentive and are quick to resolve any problems without being intrusive.

The care that my husband has received during the 2 years he has been resident in Ebor Court has been excellent. He has been well cared for and the staff have on the whole been compassionate and caring. He is content and is full of praise for his care and the quality of the food which is very important to him.

So I have already recommended this Care Home on many occasions to people and have no hesitation in continuing to recommend it.

Environment - In an industrial estate so not very prepossessing.
Ambience - As a new building, décor good, rooms small but satisfactory.
Staff - Home staff are very pleasant, but all seem to lack the empathy and joy , I have experienced visiting other care homes. Non availability of staff on reception which means often long delays to enter/exit building.
Activities - The range of these is very poor for more mentally alert and intelligent patients. Many activities are geared to them with dementia. It was devastating at Christmas to find almost no effort had been made to mark this festival. No fun, no decorations to speak of, even Christmas dinner lacking essentials.
My Father - has settle din Ebor Court but resigns himself to a) Lack of his medication, b)lack of care, c) lack of activity d) lack of communication.

Thank you for taking the time to review Ebor Court. Ideal Carehomes appreciates all feedback about our homes and following your review, we have been in touch with the Home Manager to discuss the points you have raised and ensure they are resolved fully. We understand that the team at Ebor Court will be in contact with you directly to ensure prompt resolution of your concerns. We apologise that your experience has not met the high standards we set for ourselves on this occasion. Ideal Carehomes have recently employed three Regional Activities Executives who will be tasked with assisting our homes to organise a varied range of activities which we hope your father will enjoy. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact our Customer Services team on 0113 385 3570.

My experience of Ebor Court is a kind, caring and trusting environment all the staff that I have come in contact with have been top class. They look after my mum and other residents as if they were their family. Nothing is too much trouble. The only thing I would say is that I feel more staff is needed to help the carers, maybe one or two, these ladies and gents work very hard for their wages, and it isn't easy with residents that have dementia and challenging behaviour, they are worth their weight in gold and the staff should be on £10 an hour.

It is nice to be able to visit Dad and know when I arrive he will be clean and dressed. The building, facilities and hygiene standards were the best we could find in York at the time we put him into care. Overall I am very satisfied with the standard of care and facilities the building has to offer. My only concern is the decline of Dad's teeth since he went in. There are doubts his teeth have been brushed and the communication regarding a previous dental appointment was poor. This has resulted in an infection and a lot of discomfort for Dad and more extensive dental work than was originally needed.

We have always found the staff very friendly, approachable and well informed. It is evident that the staff respect the residents dignity. There now seems to be adequate staff on duty, although during the summer holiday period there were several occasions when we visited that we found the standard in the bedroom was lacking, not due to the staff on duty, but because of shortage of staff.
My wife had worked for some years as deputy manager in a care home. We therefore both fully appreciate the superior quality and standard of care, décor and activities which are provided. We are very happy with the home, however we are disappointed that there has been an 11% rise in fees this year.

Ebor Court is dad's thid care home due to problems with behaviour and aggression caused by dementia. Since moving there he has gradually become more settled and the staff are very caring and understanding towards him.
My experience with this care home is excellent as it's only just under 2 years old and therefore built especially for these purposes. The surroundings décor and soft furnishings are lovely and above the usual standard.
I feel the residents keep their dignity.

Selection of Ebor Court was made by my son and daughter (I am widower) in comparison with others. Then the selection was being founded upon the perceived strengths, they compared with several others really. Since I have been here only 3 or 4 weeks, it may be thought my initial impression COULD CHANGE. My personal instinct negates this; I have a strong suspicion that I shall be happy and I am 90 and a half years old.

Allison’s career as a nurse has underpinned her principles of exceptional care and she ensures her role revolves around this. She has also worked as a Home Manager for 12 years, before moving onto Regional Manager and Operations Director and therefore has all the tools required to lead our Midlands homes. Allison now oversees all aspects of compliance throughout our Midlands homes and she welcomes any feedback from staff, residents and relatives alike, so do not hesitate to contact her should you have a question.
