BCG Willowbank in Carnoustie celebrated a remarkable milestone this week, as long-serving Home Manager, Jan Robertson was honoured for three decades of service in care.

To mark the occasion of her 30th anniversary, Jan’s team mates organised a surprise party to recognise her unwavering commitment over the decades. There were Indian nibbles (Jan’s favourite), presents and of course a fabulous cake. Those colleagues – several of whom have worked closely alongside Jan for almost as long as her tenure – describe her as a motivating force and a true mentor.

Joining BCG when the company – then known as Balhousie Care – took over the home, Jan’s connection to Willowbank goes back even further. She is one of the organisation’s longest-serving team members and has played a vital role in the home’s growth and development. Although she left Willowbank to take the helm of Dundee’s Clement Park care home in 2010, she returned soon after in 2012 as her heart was with Willowbank.

Jan Robertson said: “This is all such a lovely surprise. I was truly shocked and didn’t expect this at all. Receiving such thoughtful presents and a kind letter from our Chairman and Managing Director meant so much.

“I started as a senior carer at Willowbank when Balhousie Care took over, and I’ve grown with the home ever since. Looking back, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come. From our fantastic extension through to all the upgrades to the building, there have been so many changes over time. It’s hard to believe I’ve worked here this long. But it’s all about making a difference, even a small one, for our residents and staff.”

Speaking about Jan’s contribution over the years, BCG’s Managing Director, Karen Johnson, says: “Jan’s commitment, compassion, and leadership have shaped Willowbank into a home of great care and dignity, but also fun. She strives for the highest standards and at the same time creating and protecting a space where residents, families, and staff feel truly seen, heard, and valued. From quiet moments of reassurance to fun celebrations that bring her community together, her presence has been the steady heart of the home.

“We sincerely thank her for everything she’s given. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to celebrate Jan and this remarkable achievement.”
