Lifelong fan’s wish come true as he returns to Weymouth Football Club

A lifelong Weymouth Football Club fan was a VIP for the day as he watched a match with the support of his care home team.

Peter enjoyed a special visit to Weymouth Football Club’s Bob Lucas Stadium thanks to a special wish granted by the Maiden Castle House care home team. Peter’s keen eye for the game paid off as he correctly predicted the final score to be a 2-2 draw between Weymouth, known to fans as the Terras, and Yate Town.

Peter was joined by his brother, Paul, for the special experience with the Maiden Castle House team, when he met his footballing hero, Weymouth manager, Steve Claridge. He also met the club’s mascot, Ivan the TerraBull, before the match started and had his name printed in the matchday programme as a souvenir from the day.

Peter said: “I’ve been watching them since I was 5 or 6. It’s been disappointing the past few seasons as the results have been poor but I’m hoping they get promoted soon. I’ve followed Steve Claridge throughout his career. He’s versatile and an opportunist.”

His brother, Paul, said: “Peter and I used to go to the stadium to watch the Terras play a lot, but it’s been two or three years since we’ve been able to go together. It was an honour for us to meet Steve Claridge as he’s got a lot of experience as a player at every level right up to the Premiere League and as a manager.”

The special visit was organised through Maiden Castle House’s ‘Make a Wish’ initiative which encourages residents to share the interests and passions that they once enjoyed but are unable to pursue without the home’s support. The dedicated team then brings the wish to life in a safe way to create meaningful and lasting memories.

Seeing how much it meant to him and his brother was wonderful, and it’s exactly what our ‘Make a Wish’ initiative is all about. We love helping residents reconnect with the things that bring them joy and spark fond memories.”

We’ve missed seeing Peter at our matches as he’s been coming to the stadium for many years and so it was great to have him back again.”
