Residents and colleagues at HC-One’s Hepworth House Care Home in Stanley, Wakefield, were honoured to welcome the MCPT Cadets from the Military Academy in Wakefield for a very special Remembrance Day visit.

The visit formed part of the cadets’ Public Uniformed Services course, where Level 1 and Level 2 learners are developing their skills and working towards future careers in the military and public services. Led by their training instructor, Matt Reynolds, the cadets joined residents for a morning filled with reflection, pride, and shared stories.

The visit began with a formal march into the home, as the cadets stood proudly in formation while residents and staff gathered to watch. It was a moving sight that filled everyone with pride and gratitude.

Following the march, everyone came together to observe a two-minute silence in honour of those who served. Many residents shared their own wartime memories, speaking about the roles they played and their loved ones who fought for the country. The cadets listened with deep respect, showing genuine admiration for the courage and resilience of the generation before them.

To conclude the morning, residents, colleagues, and cadets gathered in front of the home’s handmade poppy display, created by residents, colleagues, and members of the local community, for a commemorative group photo. The beautiful display provided the perfect backdrop for such a meaningful occasion.

The event was a heartfelt reminder of the importance of honouring those who served, and of the enduring bond between young people and the older generation who helped shape the world they live in today.

Ellie Linskill, Activities Coordinator at HC-One’s Hepworth House Care Home said: “It was truly wonderful to welcome the cadets to Hepworth House. Our residents were deeply moved by their visit and really enjoyed sharing their memories. It was a day filled with remembrance, respect, and connection between generations.”
