BCG celebrate green-fingered residents with gardening competition

Leading care provider, BCG, have revealed the winners of their annual BCG in Bloom competition, across their 24 homes.

Team members joined forces with residents, their relatives and members of the community to make the most of the homes’ greenspaces and broad skillsets. Several gardens underwent significant transformations, focusing on aesthetics and accessibility, while residents were also able to contribute by growing colourful containers and ‘good-looking’ vegetables.

In a contest, judged by BCG Managing Director, Karen Johnson, winners were selected for five different categories. BCG’s specialist campus, ASC in Balbeggie, Perthshire, won the Most Improved Garden award; Most Innovative Use of Space went to BCG Willowbank in Carnoustie; resident, George Carrol of Stormont Lodge in Blairgowrie was named Outstanding Resident Gardener; Crieff-based home BCG Dalnaglar claimed Best Pot, while BCG Lisden in Kirriemuir took home the new Best-Looking Vegetable award for their excellent chilli peppers. Each of these winning homes will receive £100 towards extra special trips and activities.

Competition for the coveted Best Overall Garden award was fierce, so much so that each of the resident gardener nominees are being celebrated individually, rather than a £500 prize being given to an overall winning home. Each received a special gardening hamper to say thank you for taking part and to encourage continued green-fingers, as well as a yummy chocolate box to share.

Karen Johnson, Managing Director at BCG, said: “BCG in Bloom has become a firm favourite in the calendar for many of the homes, and particularly for me too, as a judge. It’s a wonderful drive to help us all embrace nature, create colour and have the joy of getting outdoors in the sunshine. It was seriously tricky to judge this year, with so many strong entries and especially more residents than ever getting busy in the garden. It was a real pleasure to visit them all, and chat about their growing projects.

“I want to also thank the communities surrounding our homes, too. We’ve had many stories of diggers being lent, garden upcycling projects being taken to heart and a real enthusiasm to help out. I’m already looking forward to a Blooming 2026!”
