Bringing generations together — one smile, story and shared moment at a time.
At Westgate Healthcare, we believe that connections have no age limit. Across our nine care homes, we proudly host a range of intergenerational events that bring children, families, schools and community groups together with our residents. These moments encourage social interaction, and create memories for everyone involved.
Here is a look at some of the intergenerational experiences we’ve shared recently:
Debutots at Byron House- Byron House welcomed Debutots for another one of their much-loved interactive sessions. Bubbles, storytelling and imaginative play filled the room.
Linda Activities Lead – ‘It’s always a pleasure to watch our residents engage with the children – these visits never fail to uplift the atmosphere. We’re already excited for their next session!’
Mums & Babies Group at Chestnut Manor - November was full of activity and feel-good moments at Chestnut Manor. One of the highlights was a morning spent with our local mums and babies group. Their visit brought warmth, laughter and plenty of smiles, creating a lovely atmosphere for our residents.
Donna Activities Lead – ‘These intergenerational visits continue to be a highlight of our month, bringing comfort, connection and pure excitement.’
Aston Clinton School at Hampden Hall - There was no better way to welcome December than with festive cheer from the talented children of Aston Clinton School. Their Christmas carols filled Hampden Hall with comfort. This was made even better by mugs of hot chocolate enjoyed with our residents.
Home Manager Juliana – ‘The children’s enthusiasm and kindness created an unforgettable morning. We’re incredibly grateful for their visit and the spark of Christmas magic they brought.’
Little Gaddesdon School & Kerry’s Childminding Service at St Paul’s. St Paul’s was buzzing with excitement as the Little Gaddesdon School choir arrived to perform for our residents. The children sang beautifully, wowing residents with their energy. Their action-packed version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was a firm favourite — a performance like no other!
Kerry’s Childminding Service Our tiniest visitors brought the biggest smiles. The children from Kerry’s Childminding Service helped us with a very special Christmas project (all will be revealed soon!) and made handmade decorations to gift our residents.
2nd Hemel Hempstead Beavers Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome our very own little elves the 2nd Hemel Hempstead Beavers to St Paul’s. They arrived with beautifully made cards and thoughtful gifts for our residents, creating truly uplifting moments throughout the home.
We extend a sincere thank you to the Beavers for bringing such joy and festive spirit to our residents. Their visit made a wonderful contribution to our intergenerational celebrations this season.
Activities Lead Lucy – ‘The affection shared between the young children and our residents is truly magical – a reminder of why intergenerational bonds are so precious.’
John Ray Infants School at Riverdale Riverdale was filled with festive spirit as John Ray Infants visited to sing Christmas songs for our residents. The morning was full of music and heartfelt spirit. Our team wanted to do something extra special for the support from John Ray, so we provided goodie bags for the children to take home.
Home Manager Nathalie – ‘We had such a fantastic time. A huge thank you for bringing so much joy to our home. We’re already excited to welcome the children back in 2026!’
Why These Moments Matter Intergenerational activities bring a mountain full of benefits boosting wellbeing, reducing loneliness, encouraging communication, and offering both young and old new perspectives.
