Individualised Care at Howard Court Care Home

Last Updated: 17 Dec 2025 @ 00:00 AM

We have recently published a blog on our website reflecting on the importance of individualised, person-centred care within residential care settings.

The blog was prompted by a discussion seen on a Carlisle public forum relating to care provided elsewhere in the city and is not connected to Howard Court Care Home. However, it raised thoughtful questions around daily routines, sleep patterns, and how individual preferences are respected in care environments.

At Howard Court, we recognise that no two residents are the same. While care homes must manage busy periods such as mornings safely and effectively, we believe it is essential to respect individual preferences wherever possible — including whether someone prefers an early start or a later morning.

We also understand that daytime sleep can be influenced by many factors, including medical conditions, medication, disrupted night-time sleep, or dementia-related changes. These patterns are carefully observed and reviewed so that care remains responsive and appropriate.

Families and friends play a vital role in helping us provide the best possible care. We actively encourage open communication and welcome observations or concerns, as these form an important part of ongoing care planning.

Our approach is rooted in dignity, choice, and partnership, ensuring residents receive safe, effective, and compassionate care tailored to their individual needs.
