Activities Matter Forum at Carlton Court:Wellbeing at the Heart of Care

Last Updated: 17 Dec 2025 @ 00:00 AM

Carlton Court Care Home was proud to host an Activities Matter Forum, welcoming 23 visitors from domiciliary care services, residential homes, and wider health and social care settings. The forum provided a valuable platform for professionals to come together, share best practice, and explore how meaningful activities can positively transform the lives of older adults and people living with dementia.

The session focused on how purposeful, person-centred activities are embedded into daily life at Carlton Court to support residents’ emotional, cognitive, physical, and social wellbeing. Our team shared practical examples of how activities are tailored to individual life stories, interests, and abilities—moving beyond entertainment to create meaningful engagement that promotes dignity, connection, and joy.

A highlight of the forum was the live demonstration of our Magic Table, an interactive piece of technology that encourages movement, cognitive stimulation, and social interaction. Guests observed how residents—particularly those living with dementia—engage instinctively with the table, sparking conversation, laughter, and shared moments that strengthen relationships and reduce isolation.

We also showcased Recreo VR, offering visitors insight into how virtual reality can provide immersive and meaningful experiences for older adults. From revisiting familiar places to enjoying calming natural environments, VR has proven to be a powerful tool in supporting reminiscence, reducing anxiety, and enhancing emotional wellbeing—especially for residents who may have limited mobility.

Another key feature of the forum was the introduction of The Pink Project, led by our Unit Manager. This innovative initiative focuses on improving residents’ sleep patterns through non-pharmacological approaches. By addressing environmental factors, routines, sensory cues, and personalised care strategies, the project aims to promote better rest, improved mood, and overall wellbeing—reducing reliance on medication and supporting a more holistic approach to care.

The forum was an inspiring and collaborative event, reinforcing the message that activities truly matter in care settings. By sharing ideas, innovations, and evidence-based practice, Carlton Court continues to champion wellbeing-led care and meaningful engagement as a cornerstone of excellent care delivery.

We would like to thank all attendees for their time, enthusiasm, and commitment to improving the lives of those we support. Carlton Court looks forward to continuing these important conversations and working in partnership to raise standards across the care sector.
