Dementia Awareness Week
15—21 May
What is dementia?
Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning—thinking, remembering, and reasoning—these can all affect a person's daily life and activities. These functions include memory, language skills, visual perception, problem-solving, self-management, and the ability to focus and pay attention. According to Alzheimers.org the number of people with dementia in the UK is forecast to increase to over 1 million by 2021 so it is important we understand how we can support it.

We are going to support our residents who are living with Dementia to identify what improves wellbeing through the 7 domains such as identity, connectedness, security, autonomy, meaning, growth, and Joy. Our dedicated Dementia Champions will be working with our residents to develop personal care plans and offer activities that are person centred and can support those individuals to live a meaningful life here at Westlake House.
