On Tuesday 18 May 2021, Epping Forest District Museum, Waltham Abbey and residents of Barchester Ashlar House Care Home in Epping will celebrate International Museum Day with special activities on the theme of Recover and Reimagine.
During the pandemic museums and care homes have had to respond to a fast-changing situation and rethink how to deliver services to keep giving people opportunities to engage with new activities and opportunities.
The museum provided handling objects to support the home’s commemorations of VE Day in 2020 and World Radio Day in 2021.
For International Museums Day, the museum will host a Zoom workshop for residents. They will explore beautiful posters by the artist Walter Spradbery, then engage in a series of different creative activities inspired by the nature and scenes in the posters.
The museum received funding from the Art Fund’s Respond and Reimagine Grant Programme at the start of the pandemic to develop new resources. This project with Ashlar House is one of the outcomes of this and will enable us to continue working in new and exciting ways with care homes in the future.
