View Full Details of Tigh-Na-Muirn Care HomeMy dad had terminal cancer and spent his final week at Tigh-na-Muirn. I could not have wished him to be at a better home at that time. The care he got was exceptional. All of the staff were so kind and understanding which gave me piece of mind knowing that he was being cared for properly. As well, the home was beautiful. Having looked round several homes before selecting Tigh-Na-Muirn, this was the only home I saw that didn't feel like a hospital. And although my dad wasn't able to take part in the resident activities, when I visited , I felt as though I was in a hotel or a Spa rather than a residential home. I couldn't thank the staff enough for the great care they provided for the short time my dad stayed there.
Friendly staff who are very attentive to both my mother and to any queries I might pose. Excellent communication with me on any treatments, issues, etc related to my mother, no matter how small. Although her mobility is poor, more opportunities for an escorted walk and/or fresh air might be beneficial. For the family, though, the bottom line is that our mother enjoys her time and is happy day to day.
Clean and comfortable with friendly and helpful staff. Good food and weekly entertainment. easy access to walk in the grounds outside. good parking for visitors with instant access to enter the front door.
I am very impressed with the professional care my sister in law has received at Tigh Na Muirn. The staff are extremely helpful and from the very first day she moved in I was kept informed by e mail or phone to how she was.It was a difficult decision to move her to a care home but can say it was the best choice. The activities, outings etc are well chosen and having a hairdresser on site is a great addition.I enjoy going to visit and being able to have a coffee /Tea and biscuits and a chat.I have recommended the home to others as a consideration for their relatives.
Without exception all the staff are absolutely excellent, caring and helpful. One of the very few negative features is that, on arrival, I wasn't given a very comprehensive account of all the various facilities that were available. Trivial things like, what is the function of the pushbutton buzzer in my room, how do I get myself a haircut or a bath, how to achieve a regular supply of large towels for after a shower. Trivial but annoying. Having no interest in pop so-called music, I detest the Wednesday afternoon's performances played at earsplitting volume by persons of no talent whatever just outside my room. Ah well, live and let live I suppose!
My friend has now been in Tigh-Na-Muirn for almost three years. During this time she has experienced a few ups and downs healthwise and I cannot thank all the staff for the excellent care she has received. They are extremely professional and excellent at keeping you informed. Also, you feel very comfortable when asking about any problems or concerns. As well as the care staff the kitchen, housekeeping, maintenance, office and activities staff go out of their way to ensure that the residents are comfortable and happy. My friend continually boasts about how good the meals are! Activities in the Home are excellent as well as outings and special events eg Christmas Party, Valentines Ball etc. She loves her weekly visit to the on-site hairdresser and getting a manicure etc....all the things a lady would want! Accommodation and the grounds are lovely. If you are looking for 5 star treatment and accommodation I would have no hesitation in recommending Tigh-Na-Muirn.
I have been visiting Tigh-Na-Muirn from 2010-2018 and now from 2023 ongoing. Both on a regular basis. My Aunt was very happy there and lived almost to her 95th Birthday; my friend for a little over a year. Significantly the staff remember my Aunt and very rapidly get to know my friend e.g. when we arrive to visit most can tell us where they are and they know their likes and dislikes.
Find the staff super friendly and attentive. Great range of activities, throughout of scope for my father. All beautifully maintained.
Excellent staff. Kind, friendly and professional - all grades. Facilities homely, clean and warm. food specially prepared for individual residents and time spent.
My father-in-law (89) was admitted to this care home on 29th May from a hospital in Dundee which he had been in for around 14 weeks. When he went into this hospital he stayed on his own, walked with an aid, and looked after himself, he wore xxxl clothes but couldn't keep food down. 14 weeks later he couldn't walk was in XL clothes, was sick all the time, his body was a mess with sores and blisters, he was being given food he wasn't allowed to eat, I could go on. Once admitted to the care home. Within a week he was sitting watching TV in his room, attending the weekly entertainment sessions they have on for the residents, and he was eating the special food that was made for him. Forward to today 21st June and he is now into xxl clothes, he can walk, he has stopped being sick, there is not a sign of a sore or blister on his body and his skin is smooth. He is on a programme of care to improve his medical conditions and is seen regularly by doctors and nurses. A 100% brilliant place.
When my father arrived less than a month ago he was 6.5 stone and had numerous bed sores. He is unable to do anything for himself but the staff have been lovely and are taking such good care of him. He is eating more than he has for months. the bed sores are clearing and he is more alert. The difference is fantastic.
Our mum was a resident at Tigh-Na-Muirn for five years where she had a lovely room that was kept immaculately and in keeping with the rest of the home that was maintained to a high standard. During this time Mum also had the safety and added support of unfailing care by staff who saw to her daily needs, she had the companionship of friends and staff around her and in the earlier years was supported to continue with the many social aspects that she previously enjoyed. As Mum’s health began to fail the professional care provided by staff was exceptional and at times there were staff members who went above their duty of care to ensure that Mum’s well-being was dealt with in a respectful and dignified manner. Mum’s time in Tigh-Na-Muirn was pleasant and it was made brighter due to the friendship, kindness, and care that she received not only from the care staff and management team but also from the kitchen staff, laundry staff, housekeeping/maintenance staff and activities team while staying at there.
My father came to Tigh-Na-Muirn after 2 previous care homes in the area. I have never experienced such amazing genuine care. The way every member of staff have been with both myself and my family have been amazing. Kind, corteous, mannerable and just generally caring. I can never thank you all enough. The communication I receive on my father's doctors visit and updates on him during difficult days are just outstanding. I want to shout from the rooftps just how outstanding this care home is and how truly invested the staff are in the care they provide.
Both my father and mother-in-law were very happy during their respective stays over 2.5 years at Tigh-Na-Muirn. Run by professional, highly dedicated management and staff who were always kind and caring, shown to not only the residents but to the family too. The whole family were comforted and reassured they both received an excellent level of care according to their individual needs and were treated very respectfully and sensitively. The family were all well informed and updated of any changes and concerns, and treated so very sensitively when it came to the end of their respective lives. The home itself is clean and the accommodation space is very comfortable.
My Mother was a resident at Tigh-Na-Muirn for about 16 months. Throughout that time she was very well cared for by the very attentive, caring, and professional staff. Her needs were very well met, and we always felt reassured that she was safe, happy, and cared for. The communication from the care home was very thorough, and if we had any concerns, observations, or questions, they were quickly answered. The entertainment and social events organised by the staff were very good too, and there was always some activity happening. After the initial settling-in period, my Mother was happy and content in the home, and that was so important to us. I would happily recommend Tigh-Na-Muirn to anyone who is making a difficult decision on how to provide the best care to a loved one.
My brothers and I placed my mother (who suffered from Alzheimer’s) in the care of Tigh-na-Murin when it was no longer feasible for her to stay at home on her own. A very hard decision for us to make, but it was the best decision we made. She was unsettled, to begin with but the staff dealt with this in such a compassionate way, never getting frustrated with her and treating her like a human being, not an inconvenience. She was always happy when we went to visit, always included in whatever activities were going on. Left in peace in her room if that is what she wanted, but always checked on. She made new friends with the other residents and essentially had a new chapter in her life. Although more expensive than some of the other care homes, I would say it is worth it if you can. Mum had a lovely garden room with French doors, beautiful spacious room and bathroom. I would highly recommend Tigh-na-Muirn. Great care, stimulation, wonderful caring staff, a loving care home.
Tigh-Na-Muirn is a place where relatives can be assured their loved ones will be warm, comfortable, clean, stimulated and well-fed. My parents stayed for two weeks of respite care. In retrospect, they must have been really quite tired, because when we took them home they were so much more relaxed and content. The surroundings are lovely, but it was the staff that made it special. Tigh-Na-Muirn aspires to be a premium product and mostly achieves this. Without doubt, the accommodation is more like a hotel than a care home. With my relatively small experience with care facilities, Tigh-Na-Muirn is top end and that should be expected given the price point.
I was beginning to find it difficult to look after myself at home and didn't want to put more pressure on my family. I came into the care of Tigh-na-Muirn and it was the best decision I have ever made. Nowhere is the same as home but I have fallen twice, had blackouts and various minor problems but nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The food is delicious and varied although I, personally, think it is too much. Special diets are meticulously catered for and again nothing is too much trouble. The standard of cleanliness is high and there are constant checks on individual aspects of housekeeping. Care is available 24 hours for any of one's needs and obtained by means of a buzzer. The general atmosphere is a happy one. The security arrangements are of a very high standard. Activities are provided for varying levels of ability and can be provided on request. I have lived here for almost a year and have been very satisfied as has been my family.
Mum was admitted to Tigh-Na-Muirn towards the end of 2022 and lived her final year there. During that time, I was very pleased with the way she was cared for and the service provided. As I live almost 500 miles from Monifieth, it was particularly reassuring to know that Mum was in good hands there on a day-to-day basis, with such friendly staff seeing to her immediate needs and keeping her company. I spoke with Mum daily and there was always helpful staff available to assist with any queries I might have. Every time I visited Mum, I was impressed by the warm, welcoming atmosphere created by the management and staff. Tigh-Na-Muirn was, for us, an excellent choice for Mum’s new home when was no longer able to live independently.
The staff at Tigh-Na-Muirn have been fantastic throughout our journey. My father-in-law needed respite care at very short notice and the staff were amazing at helping us to get him into a safe space. They have answered our (many) questions and given us lots of options for going forward. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and it feels like they genuinely care for the residents. My father-in-law is happy and content there. He has engaged in some of the activities and particularly looks forward to dancing. This has put our minds at rest, particularly as we don’t live locally. It’s also comforting to know that my mother-in-law can visit when she likes and can have lunch with her husband. It’s a lovely care home and while we’re not sure how things will go for my father-in-law moving forward, we’re very pleased that there was the opportunity for him to stay when he needed it.
