I had not heard of Harrowby Lodge prior to my Mum's admission for end of life care, she was a resident for 6 mths prior to her passing. From the first moment the whole staff made us feel very welcome. The nursing staff were knowledgeable & always happy to speak to me. The manager at the time was
always helpful & kind, the only issue we'd had with a member of staff was dealt with quickly, efficiently & to our satisfaction. Housekeeping, catering & activities staff were all professional, kind, caring. The frontline staff at Harrowby are their best asset. Food is very good with lots of choice. Mum's room was a good size, well furnished & always spotless. Her room did not have an en-suite or a good view. Negatives, no remote for the TV for duration of Mum's stay despite frequent requests, a call buzzer that often didn't work, very high charges for a basic room & only contact I've had since Mum's passing from the owner asked me to review the home but did not offer any sympathies on my loss.

From the moment our father was admitted for end-of-life care, he received the highest level of care by the amazing team at Harrowby Lodge Nursing Home. All the staff from the nursing and carers to the laundry, housekeeping, catering, estates, and management teams showed respect, compassion, and
support. This enabled my sister and I to become dad's daughters again instead of his carers, a time to make precious memories which we will treasure. The level of care and support towards Dad and our family was exemplary. Dad died peacefully with all his needs being met and with my sister and I by his side, if we must lose a loved one could we ask for anything more!

The home was welcoming, fresh and clean with a nice individual-sized room for my father, who needed care for end of life and who was bed-bound. All staff, including the manager, showed compassion, care and friendliness, and experience of dealing with end of life. They helped us understand the stages
he was going through and cared for all his needs until he passed peacefully away. The level of care and consideration towards my father and our family was exemplary.

My friend was transferred to Harrowby Lodge from the Hospital in September 2023 because he had undergone an emergency operation for a brain hemorrhage and caught an infection in the hospital. I visited the Home before his admission was shown his room and spoke at length to the Nursing Manager. I
felt confident from the start that my friend would be cared for professionally. Since then I have visited daily and am so impressed and grateful to all the staff. They are friendly, kind, and supportive and will always try to resolve any issues quickly, however small. My friend is now a permanent resident. The main reason for choosing to stay at Harrowby Lodge and not seeking a place in another home is because the care here is absolutely genuine. The Carers, Nurses, and support staff are all here because they care for and about the residents not just because it's a job. I would urge anyone considering a Care Home to visit and meet the staff and experience the calm and homely atmosphere here.

Been visiting a family member at this home for over 6 years the care he has received from day one has been excellent.
They never know when I’m going to show up to visit, but he’s always clean, smart and happy.
The carers are all friendly and treat him with respect and dignity.
The room is
always spotlessly clean with everything in place.
The food always looks good and fresh.
Can’t recommend Harrowby Lodge highly enough.
Well done to all staff, keep up the good work in keeping all residents well looked after and cared for.

I cannot fault the care and compassion that is displayed, and the sense of community is excellent. The home was particularly helpful when my father-in-law was failed by the hospital, and was afforded care and dignity in his final days in the home. My own father has been a resident for three years
and is perfectly content there, and is clearly popular with the staff who always have time to chat with him. Special effort is made to organise regular activities, and occasional social events to which relatives are invited. There is an active social media community, which helps relatives stay in touch, and the home's approach to visiting during Covid lockdown was as accommodating as it could be working within the conflicting advice from local and national government. On the negative side, rooms are tired and could do with a refresh and the outside spaces could be more accessible. Communication can be patchy. But overall, one of the best, if not the best, care home in the area.
