View Full Details of Whitecraigs Care HomeThe facilities at Whitecraigs are good and it is kept clean. Most of the carers are friendly and caring but are constantly on mobile phones during periods of supervision in lounge areas. When activities are on interaction improves greatly and lots of good humour. I never feel staff have got to know mum beyond dementia. Lots of different banking staff used to cover shifts. We had to ask on several occasions for mum to be bathed. No explanation could be given for bruises on hand and back. Whitecraigs were unable to care for mums moderate dementia so we moved her to another care home where mum settled within days,is happy and the change in her is commented on by all visitors. Whitecraigs in my experience is more suitable for assisted care or very mild dementia.
Very happy with care in home. Activities and events in the home have improved considerably over the past year or so. Regular visitors including singers, dancers, pets and nursery children are great for the residents ale to appreciate them. Food looks good although not being allowed to visit during meal times. I can only comment on afternoon tea which always has nice cakes, biscuits and fruit options. My only problem is with the laundry which is terrible. Clothes ruined after one wash. Can't buy light colours as everything is grey/brown after the first wash. Jumpers shrunk and not wearable after one wash. Bedrooms could do with a freshen up & only a toilet and sink - no shower.
Last July, my mum moved into Whitecraigs. It was one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make however, it turned out to be one of the best. From my first visit, Whitecraigs felt like a proper home for her and I couldn't be happier with the move. She receives care and attention from all the staff and enjoys their patter too! The team who look after her have taken time to get to know her (and me!) and that shows in her care. I know I can talk to them about any concerns I have and am listened to. Mum has had a difficult couple of years but I know here she is safe, healthy and treated with respect and dignity. I love the different events they arrange for the residents. Mum has enjoyed her day trips away and especially enjoyed a recent musical afternoon. The celebration meals are also excellent. There are regular relatives meetings when I can find out about future plans and ongoing developments/improvements but also contribute my own thoughts and ideas. Highly recommended!
Our mother was in Whitecraigs for 3 years and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. It became a home for my mum and for myself as the staff are so caring and welcoming and allowed me quality time with my mum. I felt it was Mum's home and they were visiting her every day! The love and devotion that the staff, carers and domestics have for the residents is amazing. It is a fun place to be.
As a family, we are happy with the overall care my Dad receives. The transition of Dad moving to a care home has been very hard and the staff have shown us and Dad kindness, care and attention. Dad seems very content and happy with activities and trips out provided. Big shout out to all the staff who assist with these. Dad also has a good rapport with staff who are so kind to him and other residents which is lovely to see too. It helps us knowing he is being well cared for at such a difficult time. Staff also very good at communicating with us with any issues. Also, staff good at helping us celebrate special occasions. Visiting can be fun and we have got to know other residents and their families too which makes the experience better. Thank you to all staff.
My mum has been in the care home for many years and has been treated exceptionally well. Since being diagnosed with dementia, she has received extra care and, as we live in Australia, it's comforting to know that all aspects of her welfare are being taken care of. Any time we've visited, Mum has been clean, hair washed, nails painted, and generally taken care of in every way. Staff make a huge effort to try and ensure that she is not left out of any activities. We feel very fortunate that she is a resident here.
Whitecraigs Care Home is just fabulous, Mum moved seven months ago and has had a new lease of life. The staff are wonderful, caring and fun, and they really care about the views of the residents and families.
My gran was in here last year and all I can say is do not put your family in here. The care was so bad in here that it led my gran into the hospital where she had to stay for weeks until we found a suitable replacement. The carers are very lazy and cliquey, any time I visited all I ever saw them do was gossip and hide in the office. Numerous times I could hear the carers talk badly about their colleagues and residents which didn’t give me confidence about my grans care. My gran only got washed by the carers a handful of times in the few months she lived there and was often forgotten about at meal times. Please avoid and put your family member elsewhere.
In general a well-run residence, staff caring and attentive. Lots of activities, both indoor and outdoor. Always staff in residents' lounge and dining room checking on the wellbeing of residents. Visits from the therapy dog (Dexter) are really appreciated.
Mum has been in Whitecraigs Care Home dementia ward for over a year now. The staff are extremely caring and got to know Mum very quickly. As she is ninety years of age her needs have changed somewhat since she arrived and therefore so has the care and attention she requires. This has been done without delay in order for Mum to be comfortable and happy at all times. Any communication and feedback is given in a professional and caring manner. Admitting a loved one to a care home is no easy task but when you visit and are greeted with a big smile then you know you have done the right thing and chosen a great care home.
My auntie has been in the care home for a little over a year, and I thank my lucky stars I picked this place for her. Never having to deal with putting someone into care was a new experience for me. However, Whitecraigs management assisted me every step of the way and continues to do so. If I have any questions or concerns, the actual care staff are, without a doubt, wonderful. My auntie is looked after by everyone so incredibly well, and she is so happy in the home, and you can feel that they really care about her, and nothing is a problem. They all work incredibly hard, and I feel they interact with her so much and with me too. Going in, they greet you with your name and always ask how you are and update you on how my auntie is doing. They also do so much for the residents, keeping them entertained and posting it all on the Facebook page, which is really great. I cannot thank them all for everything they do, including the kitchen staff, cleaners and anyone else who helps; they are amazing people.
My mum and dad have both lived in the care home and love it. Both parents had dementia and it was a very difficult for my brother and I to make the decision to move them to a care home. I knew when I visited the home this was the place for them, the staff welcomed us with a smile and a positive attitude. Unfortunately, my mum passed away in November 2022, the staff were fantastic and amazing in helping to support my Dad and my family at a very sad and difficult time. My Dad continues to live a fulfilling life, enjoying each day and looking forward to what he can get up to with the staff. I work in the care sector as a manager and I couldn't have wished better for the care, love and attention my mum received and my dad continues to receive on a daily basis. Thank you all for the wonderful work you all do in challenging times.
I would like to thank all the staff at Whitecraigs Care Home for the care and patience in settling my mum in when she arrived. The manager went above and beyond her duties in making sure my mum had everything she needed to make her feel at home. This was a big change in all our lives, especially Mum's, but I honestly can’t thank everyone enough for all their help.
My husband has been in Whitecraigs Care Home for 8 months now. It was the hardest decision I had to make but the care and attention he receives are excellent, much more than I could have given him myself. The staff are so caring and inform me of everything that happens. The manager is always willing to listen, even if it’s just to see how I’m doing and reassure me about things. My husband thinks the staff are wonderful and jokes with them. My mum was there for nearly 7 years and was so happy and content and enjoyed all the activities. The main gripe I have is the Wi-Fi but thankfully it’s being dealt with. The home itself is constantly getting updated but the main thing for me is the care all the staff give. Well done to you all!
Our mum has been in Whitecraigs Care Home since Oct 2021 and settled into her new surroundings very quickly. This was achieved in the main by the staff and management understanding our mum's needs and being present to assist her with her daily living. Staff are charming, helpful and on hand when needed. What was important for us was that our mum felt safe, secure, contented and treated with respect and dignity. The level of professional care that is evident on a daily basis doesn't happen by chance, staff are trained and competent but most important of all they demonstrate the right attitude for the job they do. There is a happy family atmosphere within Whitecraigs and as a relative of a resident there, it fills me with a sense of comfort that my mother is well looked after. In order to provide a balanced view of the facility. The one thing that isn't in doubt though is the caring and compassionate approach from all of the staff. Wifi could do with improvement and the ability to make telephone calls within the facility.
My nana was in this care home only a few months before we had to move her because of how badly she deteriorated from being in Whitecriags. My nana was forgotten about at meal times and only got a shower/bath a handful of times. The care workers were too busy gossiping about each other every time I entered the home and on one occasion I saw them doing each others hair instead of looking after the residents. The manager of this care home acts like she doesn't have a care in the world, every single time me and my family complained about something she never seemed to care or do anything about it. I wouldn't wish this care home on my worst enemy.
My grandparents were both in Whitecraigs Care Home and I cannot fault them at all. My nanny has now unfortunately passed away but my pappy still lives in the home and everything they do is exceptional. Pappy enjoys lots of activities, excellent meals, there is great staff and the place is immaculate (the housekeeping staff really do not get enough credit for the work they do, it cant be an easy task). I cannot fault them at all and I am so glad we chose here to have our relatives spend the rest of their lives. Special mention to all of the staff in the Rouken Glen unit for being so kind and helpful to us as a family, (not just my grandparents in their care) nothing is ever a bother to any member of staff and everyone is more than willing to help if needed.
It can be very daunting to find the right place for a parent in their later years that needs full-time care, so we went with Whitecraigs on a friend's recommendation, and we can't be happier. The care is second to none, and with a lively Facebook page showing all the activities, we are, in no doubt, it's a tremendous place. Sure, there are a couple of things that need a wee bit of TLC and upgrading (windows, WiFi, but these are being addressed), but they don't affect the overall care, which is the most important aspect. One of the best things about Whitecraigs is that you can drop in at any time (out with protected meal times), so nothing is covered up for relative visits. Another good aspect is the low staff turnover which lets you and your loved ones build up a relationship with the staff, and we find this very Important. Highly recommended.
My mum has been in the care home since August 2019 and has been well cared for. Her every need has been met, and the staff keep me updated on all aspects of her daily life. Any time I phone, they are very pleasant and informative. Big, big thank you.
My mother was in this care home for just over 3 months, to say the least, I was fooled. My mother's dignity was taken by several staff members, my mum ended up in hospital, where she still is in hospital. The staff members including management are a clique, the things that do go on would make your hair curl. I would not like anyone's loved one to suffer the way we have. I would not put anyone in there, in my opinion, the place should be shut down, never a call from the manager or anything to see how my mum was doing, it's an absolute disgrace.
