View Full Details of Maitland HouseMy wife and I came to Maitland House today to join my father-in--law for their annual Barbecue Lunch! We arrived with grandson in his buggy and found my father-in-law. We quickly got ourselves into the lovely garden and took a bench seat at the back of the garden - we were late! Quickly the staff, though, rallied around offered us drinks, providing a suitable chair for my father-in-law to sit and took our meat order for the Barbecue, told us where to help ourselves to salads and provided a side table to hold our drinks etc. The afternoon was great fun especially with the entertainment - a singer - who new his stuff and was a dab hand with his violin as well. The food as was good, the service help impeccable especially the little jug of cream to make chocolate cake dessert which my father-in-law and I especially enjoyed and moreover the second slice! A great time! Thanks all.
When mum became suddenly unwell, the carer looking after her that morning was kind, caring and attentive. This incident has prompted this review. They promptly called an ambulance & notified us what was happening.
my friend has been a resident at Maitland House for over four years. In that time the staffing has improved with fewer agency staff and staff and management that are friendly and helpful. If I have a concern it is that the staffing ratio is fine for those residents that can (and are willing) to get to the lounge to join in with other residents but for those who stay in their rooms do not have much companionship from the staff.
Overall we are very happy with the care my husband receives. He has settled in very well and is happy with the carers and the surroundings and this therefore allows us to feel confident that he is in the right place. He is happy with his room and that he has an en-suite. He loves his cups of tea and appreciates the staff always providing this for him.
Maitland House provides a very safe and caring environment for my mother. As they are a not for profit organisation the fees are used directly for staffing and facilities, with no need to return profits to shareholders and this is apparent throughout the home. Staffing levels are generally very good and the team is polite, caring and focussed on the needs of the residents. Her room and the communal areas are very clean and the laundry service does a great job of ensuring the right clothes are returned to each resident. Before arriving at the home my mother was falling regularly and didn't feel safe in her home, despite the care we put in place. She has been at Maitland House for 2 years and they have managed her safety incredibly well. Medical attention is provided regularly and any issues responded to promptly. The activity manager works hard to provide a range of activities for residents and there is a wonderful garden.
Our brother-in-law has been living at Mailand House for over a year now & we are aware of his health and confidence improving over this time. When visiting him, my husband & I find every member of staff friendly, informative, helpful and clearly, they have spent some time getting to know our relative. We have every confidence that he is being well cared for in every way. He seems very content in his new environment, he is happy with his room & its facilities plus he enjoys the food. Given that he went into this facility very reluctantly, we are delighted that he has become content to be a permanent resident. I'm sure that the staff at Maitland House will do everything in their power to maintain this. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this Care Home to others.
My mum spent 2 weeks in Maitland House for respite care and during that time the staff and the whole caregiver team extended the warmest of welcomes to us and my mum, they were attentive, caring, empathetic, understanding, kind, friendly, experienced & knowledgeable. We cannot speak more highly of the attention to detail all the staff adhered to. My Mum enjoyed her stay at Maitland House and is looking forward to spending more time there in future (subject to availability) to catch up with fellow residents and all the staff. Thanks again much appreciated to all at Maitland House.
My Aunt has lived at Maitland House since 2019 until she passed away recently. She especially loved the garden. She was very happy at Maitland House. The staff have always been very kind, courteous and professional. They have provided an excellent standard of care. I would not hesitate to recommend Maitland House.
I spent 2 weeks respite at Maitland House. I was looked after with kindness and understanding and the other residents were welcoming and friendly. I would recommend Abbeyfield unhesitatingly as a care home where care and kindness come first.
Dad came to you in March 2023, and from day one, Dad has been made to feel very welcome. My sister and I have found the team at Maitland House to be very friendly, from management to all the carers. After we come away from visiting Dad, we both know he is in safe hands with your team until our next visit. Maitland management and staff keep up the good work.
Since my dad became a resident at Maitland House Care Home in the summer of 2022, we have been impressed with the professionalism and level of care provided. He often referred to the accommodation and surroundings being likened to a hotel and he loved the place and the people, both staff and residents. The staff attended to his every need, always polite and courteous. In the last few weeks of my father's life, the staff at Maitland House went above and beyond our expectations. They supported both my father and our family in this most difficult of times.
My mother has been under the care of Maitland House now for just over a year and we have seen a marked improvement in her health, confidence and well-being during this time. She enjoys the relaxed and safe environment provided by the staff, engages with activities that are run and now eats more than she used to which is great to see. The room facilities are perfect for her and she often looks forward to spending time with other residents playing scrabble and other board games. Moving forward we hope to continue to see the high standards being kept and would highly recommend this facility, the staff are great!
Since my dad entered Maitland House in June 2022 the staff have been exemplary in their care for him. We have been satisfied with every aspect and we feel at peace that he is in the care of people who are capable, kind, attentive and respectful of his wishes. The family visit him 3-4 times weekly and friends are also regular in their visits. The managerial staff and carers alike have been helpful to us and kept us informed at every stage. Under their excellent care, my dad has improved, especially in his mobility and continence and this is in no small part due to the gentle but persistent encouragement of the carers. The home has a lovely comfortable feel about it, it is always clean and never smells unpleasant. We are so grateful that Dad is somewhere where he is safe, people are looking after him and it is somewhere we like to visit!
I would like to see the residents given more stimulation, not just in the form of activities arranged but also more time spent just talking to residents and encouraging them to talk to other residents. Currently at Maitland House in communal areas, residents sit without talking and as a result, many fall asleep. Maitland House still maintains strict mask wearing for visitors and exclusion for taking tea with their relatives. Although I appreciate that this is to protect residents from infection, other care homes have now relaxed this policy, suggesting it comes from government guidelines and not regulations. I believe this now needs to be reviewed. A less rigid policy in face mask wearing helps the residents to join in conversations as they can hear easier and having tea together makes for a more social visit.
The Church has organised "songs of praise" on a monthly basis for many years at Abbeyfield and it's a joy to see the residents singing traditional hymns and enjoying a thought-provoking talk. On average 12 to 15 residents join us every month and we have had to move to the dining room from the lounge as numbers increase, we are grateful to the staff and to the activities organiser who are so helpful in bringing the residents to our meetings, we look forward to starting our time together again when circumstances allow.
My mother lived at Abbeyfield House for about 18 months and once said to me "I never though I would be so well cared for". It is a real home for home with a stable group of staff who genuinely show affection and care for the residents. A variety of interesting activities are provided and birthday and festivals are celebrated, with a birthday and Christmas present from the staff. It is a community that the family feel part of and are involved. Mum had a good keyworker but sometimes, channels of communication were unclear to me.
My mother has been here for 1 year. Every time I have come to see her I am struck by the kindness, friendliness and happy disposition of all the staff here. My mum is very settled and happy here, because of the way she is looked after. If I was ever in the situation of having to go into a care home I would happily choose this one.
