My mum has been in blackdown for a few years now and the care and support has been amazing, she was looked after extremely well and all her needs were met, communication with the family was also impeccable. All of the staff are loving and caring and always there for support for my mum and all of the family.
My mother was admitted at beginning of June. The care was exceptional, the staff were amazing and very diligent. They were always on the other end of the phone being supportive, empathetic and caring. Thank you.
I can't fault the care that the staff at Blackdown gave my mum in her final month. They were thoughtful to all my mum's needs, and our needs. They kept us fully informed on everything, from her medication needs and changes, to her general comfort on a day today basis. The whole experience of visiting my mum @ Blackdown was always very relaxing. I knew that Mum was being very well looked after and I would never have any hesitation in recommending this home to others.
The care my mum received in the last few weeks of her life was outstanding. The patience they had with her was heartwarming to see. When mum passed they show us (the family) so much care and compassion which meant so much.
My mother became a resident at Blackdown approx 1 month ago & her condition rapidly changed to end of life care. The staff kept us informed of our mothers care at every step of the way. Cannot fault the care mum received. All staff friendly & approachable. We mainly dealt with the manager & staff nurse who was the deputy who were more that willing to deal with any issues we had as a family. Would hiighly recommend this nursing home, beautiful setting & comfy rooms.
My father in law was staying with us, till the point he no longer could. My wife didn't want any outside help or support. It took alot for her to let someone help. Blackdown couldn't of been a better fit for us all. My father-in law was happy, comfortable and felt safe enough to be honest in how he felt. the staff have been amazing in their support to him and us as a family. While doing their job they've also made sure my wife/kids are well looked after while there.
I was caring for my Dad at home after a year of caring for my mum/step dad through cancer, I did not want him to spend his last months anywhere other than home, it came to a point where for his health and my mental health I had no choice, Blackdown was found and I couldn't be more greatful. The staff have saved me, made me feel welcome and supported in the darkest time of life. The care and attention they've provided my Dad is untouched. I will forever be greatful to them.
Caring friendly staff that go the extra mile to ensure residents are comfortable, cared for and happy in the home. Entertainment and well-being events are regularly provided to meet variety of residents needs. The management and staff respond in a caring way to any feedback from families and residents and genuinely listen.
Blackdown - the manager and two members of staff specifically and all staff have been fantastic with my Dad who moved in following a long stay in hospital. By nature, my dad is very anxious and takes a while to settle. Blackdown have been more than accommodating, giving him time, patience and more importantly the specialist care he requires. I am happy and relieved that I know his days are enriched with activities and entertainment, good and plentiful food and great care and that I don't have the worry about his welfare. I couldn't have placed him in a better home
Blackdown Nursing Home is absolutely wonderful. The staff are so kind and caring that my husband settled immediately. The care he was given was exceptional and that gave me complete confidence that he was in safe hands. If the staff had any concerns - even minor - they would call and let me know, so that I was always informed. If he wanted to have a walk about, there was always a member of staff nearby to keep an eye on him and help if he was a bit wobbly that day! Every time I visited, I was so impressed with everything - from the attentive nursing staff and the smiling chef with his super meals, to the activities, which were varied and excellent. His south-facing bedroom was lovely with stunning views across the village and Dartmoor. Management manage the home faultlessly, along with ample staff. I will be forever grateful to them all for making his final weeks the best they could be. Thank you to the entire wonderful team.
My husband had a stroke which has left him unable to walk, incontinent and with only a little speech. He's very tired and rather depressed but the staff are always very kind and caring and try to cheer him up with a kind word and lots of humour. They try to make him say a word here and there and have taught him to sing a few songs to help his speech along. The management is always trying to improve things and has changed his room around twice to make it better for him. He has a lovely view out over the garden where rabbits and squirrels pop up now and then and there are many care animals which come in for a visit, it's always nice to have a good furry cuddle. A big thank you to the management and staff for taking care of him and making a difficult situation so much more bearable.
My godmother moved to Blackdown Nursing Home in August and I have found the staff really helpful and positive. I was concerned that moving to a new home would be upsetting for her but the staff have done their best to make her at ease. The home is clean and tidy. Today was special because she was able to leave her bed and spend time in the day room listening to songs sung by a visiting entertainer.
Just generally, the care for my mum is fantastic, all staff are always happy and friendly and I always feel relaxed knowing how well she is looked after, thank you so much. I cannot pick a certain specific time to comment on as generally, my mum's care is spot on. She can be very argumentative and I know all the staff are very tolerant.

My mum has only recently moved into the home and I already feel that it is by far the best she has been in to date. The staff are extremely friendly but also have the highest standard of care and professionalism to both the residents and visitors. The home itself is welcoming, cheerful and pleasant to spend time in, it has great facilities and the rooms and communal areas are all very nice.
All staff are kind and caring - most important! Bedroom quite small but has a beautiful view of garden and up to the moor. Room has a wash basin but an ensuite lavatory and shower would be ideal. Outside areas are secure and pleasant. My husband enjoys the food.
