Advanced Dementia
Someone living with our definition of "severe dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Severe memory problems. Not recognising family members and friends. Not being able to recall their own name

- Severe confusion, e.g. about the time of day or where they are, including their own home
- Apathy, depression and anxiety
- Believing things that aren't true (paranoia)
- Frequent hallucinations

My brother has been in this care home for 6 years, during this time a carer had access as to his bank card and withdrew over £14k no receipts, and alleged Michael gave her and her daughter cash. Safeguarding team brought in, and it was proven that Michael had experienced choersive control, manipulation from carers. They were dismissed, due to Michael having capacity they couldn't be charged.
Then I noticed I was sending more and more toiletries, over 10 months he had 38 bottles of shower gel. He is bed ridden has one bath a week, this was raised over 15 emails before I finally got a response and investigation.

To cap it all I then receive a phone call out of the blue saying he was being kicked out as he'd been abusive to staff. On finding out why this occurred it was due to his pain medication being late, he had no pain killers since Sunday, this was now Wednesday!!! I'm absolutely furious as the manager said he'd always been abusive, this is the first I've ever heard of it!

Dad has been in Bellamie Gables for a few years and is very well cared for. Highly recommended. Very friendly to visitors with a cuppa and a biscuit. Regular phone calls and reviews from the staff. The premises are spotless.

My mother-in-law has only been at Belamie Gables for just over a week. I attended their Christmas party and I must say an excellent job to all the carers and the entertainment was really good too.

My mum has only arrived at Belamie Gables just over a week ago. As with all families the decision is made with a heavy heart. I have truly felt my mum is in very safe, caring kind hands. When ringing daily to check on my mum I can clearly tell the staff are trying to support and reassure me. I am very impressed with the organisation as well including all paperwork, medication and being registered at doctors surgery. Thank you for making a hard tricky week a little easier.

My friend is treated with such care and dignity. She always looks clean, smart and clothes matching. She says she feels cared for. Plenty of activities in evidence and a lot of care and energy given to make Christmas enjoyable. The staff know her well and are so patient and I have no worries that she is not looked after as I would want.

Belamie Gables is a 'pet-friendly' care home managed by an experienced professional who ably leads a dedicated team of carers.
Since my wife's arrival at the end of June, the entire care team have welcomed
her and made her feel like an important part of the 'Belamie' family. The team offer genuine warmth and kindness and keeps me appraised of all relevant matters affecting her wellbeing.
Although an older building the resident's private rooms are well-appointed and cleaned regularly. All communal bathrooms and corridors are kept clean and the building is well maintained.
The home receives a weekly visit from a member of the local medical centre with whom they have an excellent relationship.

The standard of care from staff is very high and compassionate. We have seen them deal with extremely tricky situations in a professional and caring way.
Food quality is excellent and cleanliness good. We never feel our mother is ignored. We are always made very welcome when we visit and are kept informed of any changes in our mother's needs.

I live out of the country so can only visit once or twice a year. Always been reasonably impressed with both the facilities and the staff. My only criticism would be that the implementation of new facilities does not always get done in the time promised. Things seem to take a lot longer than originally indicated, although they do seem to get there in the end.
I find the costs expensive, although I don't believe that's a specific problem in all care homes. The government really needs to step in and make the whole system more affordable.
