    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. 3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.5 for Barchester Lynde House Care Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 19 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 19 Positive Reviews = 1.900 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (19 Positive Reviews ÷ 76 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.500

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). Living a long distance from my mother it is important to me that Mum is looked after in a compassionate and caring way, with her safety as high priority. I visit Lynde House on impromptu basis every 4-6 weeks and find always that Mum is clean and comfortable. Mum has been in this home for 5 1/2 years during which time her dementia has notably deteriorated. The staff at Lynde House have risen to the additional and often difficult behaviour, with care. Any bad apples are quickly weeded out.

My elderly cousin is approaching her 90th birthday - but she knows nothing of this; we her relatives try to humour her, try to visit her, try to respect her dignity - which she not longer has much awareness of. She spends her life in another world/another time - walking home from school school perhaps? Waiting for her mother to come.
She has been voluntarily bed-bound for the last 2 years - she refuses all attempts to help her get up. It is so sad. But I amazed at the care taken of her: she has no bed sores, her skin is clean and she smells fresh. Her bed is frequently changed. Her nurses and carers are so kind and gentle. They are amazing!

A very nice residence with ample space, corridors etc. Staff are very friendly, efficient and generally the establishment has a calming ambience, 'laid back' as it were.

Lynde House is an excellent care home. My father unfortunately has dementia and is bed bound. The manager and staff do an excellent job looking after him. The facilities at the home are very good as are the activities. My father now has a peg so is not able to enjoy the excellent food that Lynde House provides. He is always treated with dignity and we are very happy that my father is in such a good caring home. The staff are always friendly and helpful and manager is always available to chat about any concerns.

Probably amongst the highest standards of care home albeit not cheap! My mother in her 104th year has enjoyed an extension of life for the past year through the social interaction and dignified care provided.

Lynde House is a pleasant nursing home with very nice carers and staff. I feel if you require nursing care it is excellent and you are well cared for. If you do not need nursing care I feel you receive less care. I am sure all nursing homes now a days are short staffed which clearly is a problem. My mother is happy at Lynde House but it is too expensive for her to continue to stay long term. There has been a big refurbishment costing a lot of money which I don't feel was a priority. Staff should be well paid and then they would stay.

Tom Holloway, Senior Digital Marketing Executive at Barchester Lynde House Care Home responded to this review on 19 May 2016:

Thank you for your comments.

Our staffing levels are determined by the dependency levels of the residents in the home and are reviewed by our General Manager on a continual basis. The home is staffed to its full staffing complement and has no need to use agency staff.

Thank you for your feedback that our staff are excellent at the home. We value our staff and this is clearly shown in the fact that staff turnover at Lynde House is much less than the industry average.

We are sorry that you feel that the refurbishment of the home as not a priority. However the quality of our buildings and environment are of paramount importance and we are proud to reinvest in our homes. The major refurbishment of Lynde House has been necessary to ensure all our residents are cared for in the best possible environment and this is set to continue over the coming months.

Lynde is a comfortable and welcoming home where visitors are greeted with a smile and residents are well cared for. There are always stimulating activities on offer and the standards of food, décor, bathroom facilities are top-notch. As a family we do all resent the huge monthly feeds of over £7,000 - just recently increased from £6,600 - but recognise that this is what we have to pay for sustained care, comfort and security of our elderly and needy mum. And compared to the previous care home (Not Barchester), the life at Lynde is superb.. Thank you.

Lynde House is a happy, friendly environment with kind and caring members of staff. My relative has always been treated with dignity and her foibles and needs accommodated. Although she is unable to move about unaided members of staff take her to the various lounges to join in the activities and other residents are encouraged to pop into her room for chats. Overall I am very satisfied with the ethos of the home.

We are delighted with the care which my husband is receiving. Standards of hygiene are very good, the carers are very engaged with the residents and make efforts to socialise and stimulate. The qualified nurses are very helpful and active in the service they provide. Some of the activities are not suitable for my husband and he tends to be left sitting in his wheelchair.
As we are self-funding we find the fees are eye-wateringly expensive, but are prepared to pay them for as long as the money lasts.

My mother-in-law was in a very poor health when she arrived in Lynde House from hospital. A year on, she has recovered so well due to the excellent care of the staff at Lynde House. The staff are very friendly and supporting to me and my family.

I would recommend this home because of the high standard of care, the dignity and respect shown to residents by all the staff and the friendly atmosphere of the place.

The garden is a great asset. There are plenty of interesting activities for residents to partake in if they are able to. There is a very nice dining room and guests are always welcome.

My father was very well cared for at Lynde House for the last two years of his life. He was treated with dignity and compassion by all the staff. My mother has been there for several respite visits and I could not recommend the home and staff more highly. I visit very often and feel my mother is safe and very well cared for.

As when my father was at Lynde House 4 years ago found the care home excellent. With staff who have been there for 10 years. This speaks a lot about Lynde House. Have also recommended other people to Lynde House and they have been very satisfied.

Daily Consideration and Respect

My cousin does not take help easily, she is not completely aware of where she is and definitely unaware of the state she is in. She has vascular dementia and she has always been difficult to handle as she is terrified of losing her mental capacity. The sad thing is that she is unaware that she has already lost it. Despite her prickliness, the nurses and carers at Lynde House come and chat to her, all this kindness and respect when sometimes she shouts and yells at them or accuses then of hurting here, but it's not them but herself who is hurting them. Yet they remain so loving towards her.

My mother has been at the above home for nearly 9 years. She is 107 years in February 2015, and I'm sure their care has prolonged her life. It is very well managed and the carers/nurses are extremely caring and helpful. They arrange every type of activity to suit all tastes. The food is well balanced and appetising, with variety and choice.
