  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.181 for Garth House Care Home with Nursing is calculated as follows:

      1. 8 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 8 Positive Reviews = 0.800

My mother has been at Garth House since 2013 and we are very happy with the way she has been cared for. The staff are very caring, and nursed her back from a serious illness with great skill and dedication. The home itself is comfortable and well cared for and this gives my mother great pleasure. Overall we feel this is the right place for her at this stage of her life.

My mother was admitted to Garth House at the end of September. This is her fourth home in two years, the others having been less than satisfactory, to say the least! From the moment you walk in the door at Garth House, it is like home from home. The carers are always happy and friendly and obviously enjoy their jobs. The nursing staff are excellent, with every minor detail picked up on and actioned. This has taken a great deal of stress off of me. I thoroughly recommend Garth House to anyone who needs an excellent care home. Well done to the manageress.

My aunt was transferred from hospital to Garth House in June 2015 having stayed there previously. From initial contact all the staff were very helpful and polite. I visit weekly and all the staff recognise me including kitchen staff. My aunt seems to be well cared for and has settled in nicely. The staff contact me if they need information. The only minor point is my aunts room on a few occasions has looked a little dirty and there has not been any spare toilet paper or a glass to drink from.

My mother came to live at Garth House Care Home in February aged 93. I have nothing but the highest praise for this wonderful home where she stayed until needing to go into hospital for a couple of weeks before she died. The staff at Garth House Care Home are simply outstanding in their care, warmth, good humour and love. It is also a beautiful place with glorious grounds, just couldn't have asked for more.

Dad has been at Garth House for just over 2 years. Unfortunately in that time his dementia has become worse. But the staff who work there still treat dad as a human being and with a lot of dignity. He can no longer stand or walk but the staff move him between a wheelchair and his chair or bed with care and attempt to be as gentle as possible. It is good that the staff are directly employed and there doesn't seem to be a very high turnover of staff. The home always looks clean and the food always looks good and they offer a good choice everyday. There are regular meetings between the residents families and the staff to ensure good communication.

Job Title: Home Manager

Description:

I lead my compassionate Care Team in delivering the highest level of residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 39 residents.

I have more than twelve years of experience across acute medical wards, including: oncology, haematology and surgical nursing. I began specialising in care for the elderly in 2002 when I took over as the owner and manager of a private care home; I have continued to work in the sector ever since, aside from a short period of two years spent working in a private hospital in Barbados.

This diverse experience has equipped me well for my role at Garth House, where I work hard to ensure that those in my care lead happy and fulfilling lives, whilst maintaining choice over the care and support they receive. I feel privileged to be able to make a difference to people’s lives every day.

As well as spending time with residents and making sure they are comfortable, safe and happy, I feel that it’s important to act as a mentor to my Care Team. I firmly believe that a happy, fulfilled and motivated Team will be in a better position to consistently deliver a high standard of care.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, gardening and walking my dogs near to my home in the picturesque Surrey Hills, where I have lived for the past four years.
