Hearing Dogs for Deaf People carefully selects and train dogs to respond to important specific sounds for severely or profoundly deaf people. The dogs alert by touch and lead the person to the source of the sound such as the doorbell, telephone or a baby's cry etc. To indicate danger signals such as fire bells or smoke alarms the dogs touch and then lie down. Whenever possible, the dogs are selected from rescue centres, but they are also donated by breeders and members of the public, with the remainder coming from the Charity's own breeding scheme. The Charity is committed to the life-long welfare of all hearing dogs.
